Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Meticulously process and mail thousands of juror summonses, questionnaires, and other official correspondence in strict accordance with legal timelines and court procedures.
  • Perform high-volume, accurate data entry of juror information, questionnaire responses, and status updates into the court's dedicated Jury Management System (JMS).
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the public regarding jury service, professionally answering a high volume of telephone, email, and in-person inquiries.
  • Clearly and patiently explain complex rules, regulations, and procedures to prospective jurors, including qualification requirements, deferral policies, and excusal requests.
  • Review, evaluate, and process juror requests for postponement, excusal, or disqualification based on established statutory guidelines and court policies, escalating complex cases as needed.
  • Prepare and maintain the official master jury wheel and qualified jury wheel, ensuring the random selection process is conducted with complete integrity and documentation.
  • Greet and check in large panels of prospective jurors on trial days, verifying identity, providing instructions, and ensuring a smooth and orderly assembly process.
  • Assist in conducting juror orientation sessions, which may involve public speaking to large groups, presenting informational videos, and answering questions to prepare jurors for their service.
  • Accurately calculate and process juror attendance fees and mileage reimbursements, ensuring timely and correct payment for all individuals who have reported for service.
  • Prepare, assemble, and distribute juror-related paperwork and documentation for court proceedings, including panel lists, attendance sheets, and voir dire records for judges and attorneys.
  • Operate and troubleshoot a variety of office and mailroom equipment, including high-speed scanners, printers, and automated folding/inserting machines for mass mailings.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion at all times, handling sensitive personal information and sealed court documents with the utmost care.
  • Assist judges and courtroom staff during the voir dire (jury selection) process by tracking juror statuses, managing seating arrangements, and recording peremptory strikes and for-cause challenges.
  • Generate and compile a variety of statistical reports related to jury operations, such as juror yield, demographic composition, and attendance rates for analysis by court administration.
  • Meticulously create and maintain both physical and electronic records and files for each jury pool and trial, ensuring all documentation is complete, organized, and archived properly.
  • Coordinate with IT support to troubleshoot any issues with the Jury Management System or other technical equipment used in the jury assembly room.
  • Prepare and set up the jury assembly room and deliberation rooms, ensuring they are clean, stocked with necessary supplies, and ready for jurors.
  • Respond to and resolve juror complaints or concerns with empathy and professionalism, de-escalating tense situations and providing excellent customer service.
  • Monitor juror attendance and punctuality throughout their service, maintaining precise records and promptly notifying the court of any issues.
  • Create and issue work-release letters, certificates of attendance, and other official documentation for jurors to provide to their employers.
