Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct comprehensive and empathetic intake interviews to assess clients' immediate needs, legal situations, and long-term goals.
  • Develop, implement, and meticulously monitor individualized service plans in direct collaboration with clients to address their unique set of circumstances.
  • Provide direct, compassionate advocacy on behalf of clients with various entities, including law enforcement, courts, social service agencies, and housing authorities.
  • Offer persistent and empowering emotional support and safety planning for individuals and families impacted by crime, trauma, or systemic injustice.
  • Accompany clients to court hearings, legal appointments, and administrative proceedings, providing guidance and clarification on complex procedures.
  • Manage a dynamic and diverse caseload, ensuring all client files are meticulously documented, confidential, and compliant with organizational and legal standards.
  • Deliver trauma-informed crisis intervention services, including responding to hotline calls and providing on-scene support in a calm and professional manner.
  • Connect clients with a robust network of community resources, including legal aid, mental health counseling, housing assistance, and financial support, and follow up to ensure services were accessed.
  • Facilitate educational workshops and "Know Your Rights" training for community members to build awareness and self-advocacy skills.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with key community stakeholders, such as attorneys, court personnel, social workers, and other non-profit leaders.
  • Assist clients in completing and filing complex legal and administrative paperwork, such as restraining orders, victim compensation applications, and public benefits forms.
  • Meticulously collect, manage, and report on client service data to support program evaluation, grant reporting, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Testify in court proceedings or provide expert opinions when required, based on your professional involvement and knowledge of a case.
  • Participate in regular case review meetings with a multidisciplinary team to brainstorm solutions and ensure holistic client support.
  • Conduct community outreach and engagement activities to promote awareness of available services and identify underserved populations.
  • Stay current on relevant legislation, case law, and social justice issues that impact the client population and program services.
  • Provide clear and accurate information to clients about the justice system process, managing their expectations and empowering them with knowledge.
  • Mediate conflicts and facilitate communication between clients and various systemic actors to achieve restorative and just outcomes.
  • Contribute to the development and updating of program protocols, client resources, and informational materials.
  • Represent the organization at community meetings, coalition gatherings, and public events to champion the mission and build partnerships.
  • Provide non-judgmental, culturally competent services to a diverse clientele, respecting their unique backgrounds, identities, and experiences.

  • Trauma-Informed Practices: Deep understanding and application of trauma-informed care principles in all client interactions.
  • Crisis Intervention & De-escalation: Certified or highly skilled in non-violent crisis intervention and verbal de-escalation techniques.
  • Legal System Navigation: Strong working knowledge of local court procedures, legal terminology, and relevant civil/criminal justice processes.
  • Bilingual Proficiency: Fluency in a second language (e.g., Spanish, Mandarin, ASL) is highly desirable to serve diverse communities.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field, or an Associate's Degree combined with significant, directly related professional experience.

  • Master of Social Work (MSW), Master's in Criminal Justice, Public Administration (MPA), Counseling, or a related field.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) or Paralegal Certification.
