Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Execute complex data extraction, queries, and merges from various criminal justice information systems, including case management systems (CMS), records management systems (RMS), and state/national crime databases.
Perform rigorous data cleaning, validation, and transformation processes to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of large-scale, often messy, administrative datasets.
Conduct descriptive and inferential statistical analyses using software such as SPSS, R, Stata, or Python to identify significant trends, patterns, and disparities in justice system processing.
Develop and maintain comprehensive codebooks, data dictionaries, and process documentation to ensure research reproducibility and knowledge transfer.
Design and generate compelling data visualizations, dashboards, and geospatial maps using tools like Tableau, Power BI, or ArcGIS to communicate complex findings to diverse audiences.
Prepare detailed reports, research briefs, presentations, and official publications that summarize research methodologies, findings, and policy implications for stakeholders.
Assist senior researchers in the design and implementation of quantitative and qualitative research studies, including survey development, interview protocols, and focus group facilitation.
Manage and safeguard large longitudinal datasets, adhering strictly to data governance protocols, privacy regulations (e.g., CJIS), and ethical standards for handling sensitive and confidential information.
Respond to time-sensitive ad-hoc data requests from internal leadership, external government partners, and the public, providing accurate and context-rich statistical information.

Program, test, and deploy data collection instruments and surveys, monitoring response rates and ensuring data quality throughout the collection period.
