Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Execute the complete installation of a wide array of commercial kitchen equipment, including combination ovens, ranges, fryers, grills, dishwashers, and refrigeration units, following manufacturer guidelines.
  • Accurately interpret and work from detailed M&E (Mechanical & Electrical) plans, blueprints, and technical drawings to ensure precise placement and connection of all components.
  • Conduct thorough site surveys and mark-outs, translating design plans into physical layouts on the construction site.
  • Skillfully assemble, position, and securely fix heavy and complex kitchen apparatus, ensuring stability and operational safety.
  • Manage the critical connection of equipment to essential services, including water supply, waste, electrical mains, and gas lines, often coordinating with certified specialists.
  • Install and finish stainless steel fabrications such as countertops, workbenches, sinks, and wall cladding, ensuring hygienic and seamless joints.
  • Fit and assemble commercial kitchen ventilation systems, including extraction canopies, ductwork, fans, and fire suppression systems, ensuring compliance with air quality and safety regulations.
  • Uphold and enforce stringent health and safety protocols (H&S) and food hygiene standards throughout every stage of the installation process.
  • Perform comprehensive commissioning tests on all newly installed equipment to verify full functionality, safety features, and performance against specifications.
  • Conduct and document on-site risk assessments (RAMS) before commencing any work to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Liaise and coordinate effectively with other tradespeople on site, such as builders, electricians, and plumbers, to ensure a smooth and integrated project workflow.
  • Apply sealants like food-safe silicone to joints, edges, and surfaces to create a waterproof and hygienic finish that prevents dirt and bacteria build-up.
  • Proactively troubleshoot and resolve unforeseen installation challenges and technical issues that arise on site, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills.
  • Provide clients with a clear and concise handover upon project completion, including a basic operational demonstration of the new equipment.
  • Manage the on-site logistics of equipment and materials, including receiving deliveries, safe storage, and inventory management.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Tool Proficiency: Demonstrated expertise in using a full range of hand and power tools, including drills, grinders, saws, and leveling equipment.
  • Technical Drawing Interpretation: The ability to confidently read, understand, and execute work based on complex M&E drawings, schematics, and installation manuals.
  • Mechanical & Electrical Knowledge: A solid foundational understanding of mechanical systems, electrical wiring principles, and plumbing connections as they relate to commercial catering equipment.
