Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Unload, uncrate, and meticulously inspect new commercial kitchen equipment for any shipping damage, defects, or missing components upon its arrival at the job site.
- Carefully interpret and execute installation plans, blueprints, manufacturer's specifications, and rough-in drawings to ensure precise placement and assembly of all equipment.
- Safely move and position heavy and oversized equipment, such as walk-in coolers, large-scale ovens, and dishwashing systems, using dollies, pallet jacks, forklifts, and other material handling tools.
- Perform the complete assembly of various kitchen components, including but not limited to, shelving units, worktables, exhaust hoods, and custom stainless steel fixtures according to design.
- Execute precise field measurements and make necessary on-site modifications or fabrications to equipment and fixtures to ensure a perfect fit and seamless finish.
- Make final utility connections for water, gas, steam, and electricity, often coordinating with licensed plumbers and electricians to ensure all connections meet code and manufacturer requirements.
- Install, seal, and test exhaust and ventilation systems, including hoods, ductwork, and makeup air units, to guarantee proper airflow and compliance with fire and safety regulations.
- Set up and calibrate complex cooking and refrigeration equipment, such as combi ovens, fryers, and blast chillers, to ensure they operate at peak performance from day one.
- Perform detailed start-up and commissioning tests on all installed equipment to verify full functionality, safety features, and operational efficiency before project handover.
- Conduct thorough quality control checks throughout the installation process, ensuring all work meets the company's high standards, client expectations, and industry best practices.
- Provide clear and comprehensive on-site training to clients and kitchen staff on the proper operation, daily cleaning, and routine maintenance procedures for newly installed equipment.
- Read and understand complex wiring diagrams, plumbing schematics, and mechanical drawings to effectively troubleshoot and resolve installation challenges on the fly.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times, adhering strictly to all company and OSHA safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Perform field welding (typically TIG on stainless steel) and metal fabrication for custom countertops, backsplashes, and filler pieces as required by the project scope.
- Manage and accurately document all project-related paperwork, including work orders, daily progress reports, change orders, and completion forms, in a timely manner.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with project managers, general contractors, other trades, and clients to coordinate schedules, sequence work, and resolve any on-site issues.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose pre- and post-installation issues, applying strong mechanical and electrical knowledge to find swift, effective, and lasting solutions.
- Perform selective demolition of existing equipment and fixtures to prepare the site for new installations, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing operations if applicable.
- Ensure all installations are fully compliant with local, state, and federal building codes, as well as health and safety regulations (e.g., NSF, UL, NFPA).
- Manage the on-site inventory of tools, parts, and installation materials, ensuring all necessary items are accounted for and available to complete the job efficiently.
Secondary Functions
- Assist service technicians with complex diagnostics or repairs when specific installation knowledge is required to solve a problem.
- Provide constructive feedback to the sales and design teams on equipment performance and installation challenges to help improve future project designs and proposals.
- Work closely with the project management team to help refine installation timelines and resource allocation based on real-world site conditions and challenges.
- Actively participate in team safety meetings and ongoing professional training to stay current with new equipment, technologies, and installation techniques.
Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Blueprint & Schematic Interpretation: Deep proficiency in reading and understanding construction documents, technical drawings, and manufacturer installation manuals.
- Tool Proficiency: Mastery of a wide range of hand and power tools used in construction and mechanical trades.
- Utility Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical wiring, and gas line connections for equipment hookup.

Experience Requirements
Typical Experience Range:
- 2-5 years of direct experience in commercial kitchen equipment installation, commercial appliance repair, or a closely related construction trade (HVAC, plumbing, electrical).
Preferred:
- 5+ years of experience as a dedicated commercial kitchen installer, including experience as a lead or foreman. A valid CFESA (Commercial Food Equipment Service Association) certification is a strong plus. A clean driving record and possession of a DOT medical card are often required.
