Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Execute comprehensive deep cleaning and degreasing of all kitchen floor areas, including under equipment and in hard-to-reach corners, using high-pressure washers, auto-scrubbers, and specialized degreasing agents.
  • Perform periodic stripping, sealing, and waxing of VCT (Vinyl Composite Tile) and other applicable floor types to protect the surface and provide a clean, professional appearance.
  • Operate and maintain heavy-duty floor care equipment, including walk-behind and ride-on auto-scrubbers, floor buffers, polishers, and wet/dry vacuums.
  • Thoroughly clean and sanitize floor drains, troughs, and grease traps to prevent backups, odors, and pest harborage.
  • Meticulously scrub baseboards, coving, and wall/floor junctions to remove accumulated grease and soil buildup.
  • Apply specialized grout cleaning and restoration techniques to tile floors to maintain hygiene and appearance.
  • Identify and safely handle a variety of industrial-strength cleaning and stripping chemicals, ensuring proper dilution, application, and adherence to Safety Data Sheet (SDS) guidelines.
  • Implement and maintain all safety protocols during cleaning operations, including the prominent placement of "Wet Floor" signs and barricades to prevent slip-and-fall accidents.
  • Conduct regular inspections of floor surfaces to identify potential hazards such as cracks, chips, or excessively worn areas that require repair.
  • Manage the removal and thorough cleaning of all kitchen floor mats, ensuring they are properly sanitized and dried before being returned to service.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to any major spills or contamination events in the kitchen, ensuring the area is quickly and safely restored.
  • Work closely with kitchen management to schedule floor care tasks during off-peak or overnight hours to minimize disruption to food service operations.
  • Maintain a detailed log of all cleaning, stripping, and waxing activities for compliance and tracking purposes.
  • Follow a strict cleaning schedule and checklist to ensure all tasks are completed consistently and to the highest standard.
  • Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including non-slip, chemical-resistant boots, gloves, and eye protection.

Secondary Functions

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked inventory of all cleaning chemicals, supplies, and floor care equipment.
  • Perform basic preventative maintenance on floor care equipment, such as cleaning filters, checking batteries, and replacing pads or brushes.
  • Report any observed maintenance issues, such as plumbing leaks, broken tiles, or malfunctioning kitchen equipment, to the Facilities Manager.
  • Assist other maintenance or janitorial staff with general cleaning tasks during periods of high demand or short staffing.
  • Participate in mandatory safety training sessions covering chemical handling, equipment operation, and food safety protocols (e.g., HACCP).
