Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Assist senior technicians in the comprehensive diagnosis and troubleshooting of electrical, gas, and steam-powered commercial kitchen equipment, including ovens, fryers, grills, steamers, and dish machines.
- Execute routine and scheduled preventative maintenance programs, which involves cleaning components, lubricating moving parts, calibrating controls, and replacing wearable items like gaskets and filters.
- Perform basic to intermediate repairs on refrigeration units such as walk-in coolers, freezers, and ice machines, including checking refrigerant levels and cleaning condenser coils.
- Safely disconnect and reconnect equipment from utility services (gas, water, and electric) in preparation for repairs, deep cleaning, or replacement.
- Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to understand equipment operation and identify necessary replacement parts.
- Accurately identify, source, and order necessary repair parts, components, and supplies from approved vendors, ensuring compatibility and quality.
- Respond to service calls in a timely manner, traveling to various client sites to provide on-location support and assistance.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment, both in the workshop and at client locations, adhering to all safety protocols and regulations.
- Use a variety of hand and power tools, as well as diagnostic instruments like multimeters and pressure gauges, to perform repair and maintenance tasks effectively.
- Document all work performed, including detailed descriptions of the problem, the solution implemented, parts used, and time spent on each service order using a digital work management system.
- Provide clear and professional communication to clients or kitchen staff regarding the status of repairs, potential issues, and proper equipment operation.
- Participate in the installation and commissioning of new or replacement kitchen equipment, ensuring it is set up according to manufacturer specifications.
- Conduct post-repair testing and quality checks to verify that equipment is functioning correctly, safely, and efficiently before returning it to service.
- Manage and maintain an inventory of commonly used parts and supplies on a service vehicle or in the workshop.
- Help senior technicians in providing on-site training to kitchen staff on the correct daily use and cleaning procedures for their equipment to prevent future issues.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Mechanical Aptitude: Strong foundational understanding of mechanical systems, including gears, belts, motors, and moving parts.
- Electrical Diagnostics: Ability to use a multimeter to diagnose basic electrical issues, such as faulty wiring, broken circuits, and malfunctioning components in systems up to 240V.
- Basic Plumbing: Competency in handling basic plumbing tasks, including repairing leaks, replacing fittings, and understanding water flow in commercial dishwashers and steamers.
- Schematic & Diagram Reading: Proven ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer service manuals.
- Refrigeration Principles: Basic knowledge of the refrigeration cycle and components; EPA 608 or similar certification is highly desirable.
