Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Guide clients through the full design lifecycle, from initial concept discovery and in-depth consultation to project completion and final review.
  • Develop comprehensive and functional kitchen layouts, detailed floor plans, elevations, and photorealistic 3D renderings using industry-standard software (e.g., 2020 Design, AutoCAD, SketchUp).
  • Drive sales by presenting compelling design concepts and product solutions, preparing detailed quotes, and closing contracts to meet or exceed individual and team sales targets.
  • Expertly advise clients on the selection of cabinetry, countertops, hardware, lighting, flooring, and appliances that align with their aesthetic, functional needs, and budget.
  • Conduct precise on-site measurements, site analysis, and field verification to ensure 100% accuracy of design plans and material orders.
  • Act as the primary project coordinator, liaising between clients, installers, contractors, and vendors to ensure seamless execution, clear communication, and adherence to timelines.
  • Create and present professional, detailed project proposals that clearly outline the scope of work, product specifications, timeline, and total investment.
  • Translate client needs, lifestyle requirements, and architectural constraints into creative, practical, and personalized design solutions.
  • Ensure all designs are not only aesthetically pleasing but also safe, ergonomic, and compliant with NKBA (National Kitchen & Bath Association) guidelines and local building codes.
  • Deliver an exceptional, high-touch customer experience that fosters long-term relationships and generates repeat business and positive referrals.
  • Nurture and diligently follow up on sales leads generated through showroom traffic, web inquiries, builder partnerships, and referrals.
  • Manage client budgets effectively, providing value-engineered options and maintaining transparent pricing to build trust and manage expectations.

Secondary Functions

  • Meticulously review all order acknowledgements from vendors to confirm accuracy in specifications, quantities, and pricing before production begins.
  • Proactively identify and resolve any client issues or project challenges with professionalism and a solutions-oriented approach.
  • Conduct final project walk-throughs with clients to ensure complete satisfaction, create a punch list, and address any final details.
  • Continuously research and maintain expert-level knowledge of current kitchen design trends, materials, finishes, smart appliances, and industry innovations.
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with builders, architects, interior designers, and contractors to generate a pipeline of referral business.
  • Assist in maintaining the visual appeal and organization of the design showroom, ensuring displays are current, inspiring, and fully merchandised.
  • Leverage CRM software to meticulously track client interactions, project status, and sales pipeline from lead to project completion.
  • Collaborate with the design and sales team to achieve collective showroom goals and contribute to a positive, high-performance company culture.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • CAD Software Proficiency: High level of skill in kitchen design software such as 2020 Design, Cabinet Vision, AutoCAD, SketchUp, or Chief Architect.
  • Space Planning: Strong understanding of spatial relationships, workflow (kitchen work triangle), and ergonomics.
  • Product Knowledge: Deep knowledge of cabinetry lines, construction, countertop materials, appliances, hardware, and finishes.
  • Blueprint & Drawing Interpretation: Ability to read and interpret architectural blueprints and technical drawings.
  • NKBA Guidelines: Familiarity with National Kitchen & Bath Association planning guidelines and best practices.
  • Sales Quoting & Invoicing: Competency in creating detailed, accurate quotes and managing project financials.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Preferred Education:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Certification from NKBA (e.g., AKBD, CKD) is highly desirable.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 2-5+ years of direct experience in kitchen design, cabinet sales, or a closely related role.

Preferred: A proven portfolio of completed kitchen projects and a track record of meeting or exceeding sales goals in a retail showroom or design-build environment. Experience managing projects from concept through to completion is a significant asset.
