Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Accurately pick, count, and gather individual components, parts, and materials from designated warehouse locations according to detailed pick lists, work orders, or digital instructions.
  • Assemble diverse and often complex kits by combining the correct quantity and type of items, ensuring all components are present and accounted for before packaging.
  • Perform visual quality inspections on all parts and materials during the kitting process to identify and report any defects, damages, or discrepancies.
  • Securely package, seal, and label completed kits according to company standards and specific customer requirements to ensure safe transit and easy identification.
  • Utilize handheld RF scanners and other barcode scanning technology to accurately track the movement of inventory, confirm picks, and update system records in real-time.
  • Read and interpret complex work orders, bill of materials (BOMs), and assembly diagrams to ensure the precise construction of each kit.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity and accuracy to consistently meet or exceed established daily and weekly kitting targets and operational KPIs.
  • Systematically organize and stage completed kits in designated areas for the production line, assembly team, or shipping department.
  • Manage and complete all necessary paperwork and system transactions associated with the kitting process, ensuring meticulous record-keeping.
  • Operate material handling equipment, such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, and carts, to safely and efficiently transport materials and finished kits throughout the facility.
  • Verify part numbers, lot numbers, and quantities against documentation to prevent errors and ensure 100% accuracy in kit contents.
  • Follow all established safety protocols, company policies, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to maintain a secure and compliant work environment.
  • Communicate effectively with team leads, supervisors, and other departments to resolve any issues related to part shortages, quality concerns, or order discrepancies.

Secondary Functions

  • Participate in regular inventory cycle counts and physical inventory audits to help maintain the accuracy of the Warehouse Management System (WMS).
  • Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and safety of the kitting station and surrounding work areas, following 5S principles.
  • Assist in restocking picking locations and bin replenishment to ensure materials are readily available for kitting operations.
  • Provide support to other warehouse departments, including picking, packing, and shipping, as directed by a supervisor during peak periods or when kitting tasks are complete.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the appropriate personnel immediately.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by providing feedback and suggestions for optimizing the kitting process, workflow, and workstation layout.
  • Assist in the training of new kitting operators, sharing knowledge of best practices and procedures.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • RF Scanner Proficiency: Experience using handheld RF scanners for picking, inventory transactions, and order processing.
  • WMS/ERP Experience: Familiarity with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite).
  • Basic Math Skills: Ability to perform accurate counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division for inventory and order verification.
  • Computer Literacy: Basic computer skills for data entry, navigating systems, and printing labels.
  • Material Handling Equipment Operation: Ability to safely operate manual pallet jacks, carts, and other non-powered warehouse equipment.
  • Ability to Read Technical Documents: Capable of reading and interpreting work orders, bill of materials (BOMs), and schematics.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 1-3 years of experience in a warehouse, manufacturing, distribution, or order fulfillment environment.
