Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Accurately interpret detailed work orders, pick lists, and bills of materials (BOMs) to understand kitting requirements for specific jobs or customer orders.
- Navigate warehouse locations to locate, pick, and gather a variety of individual components, parts, and materials required for each kit.
- Perform precise counting and verification of all components to ensure quantities match the work order, preventing shortages or overages.
- Assemble components into designated kits, following specific instructions for arrangement, bagging, and grouping of items.
- Operate RF scanners and other handheld devices to accurately record transactions, track inventory movements, and confirm order fulfillment in the WMS/ERP system.
- Perform rigorous quality control checks on components before and after kitting to identify and report any damaged, incorrect, or defective materials.
- Securely package, seal, and label completed kits with appropriate part numbers, quantities, and other identifying information for traceability.
- Safely transport finished kits from the kitting station to designated staging areas for production lines or the shipping department.
- Maintain a high level of accuracy in all tasks to minimize errors and support overall inventory integrity and operational efficiency.
- Consistently meet or exceed established productivity and quality standards while adhering to all workplace policies and procedures.
- Operate manual and electric pallet jacks, carts, and other material handling equipment to move materials throughout the facility safely.
- Maintain clear and organized kitting stations, ensuring all tools, supplies, and components are in their proper place.
- Proactively communicate any inventory discrepancies, part shortages, or potential delays to the Team Lead or Supervisor in a timely manner.
- Follow all established safety protocols and OSHA guidelines, including wearing proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), to ensure a safe working environment.
- Verify part numbers, lot numbers, and expiration dates against documentation to ensure compliance with quality and regulatory standards.
Secondary Functions
- Assist with regular cycle counts and annual physical inventory activities to help maintain accurate stock records.
- Support the receiving and put-away teams by helping to unload, sort, and shelve incoming materials during peak times.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying and suggesting enhancements to kitting processes, workflows, and workstation layouts.
- Replenish kitting lines and work cells with necessary packaging supplies such as boxes, bags, labels, and tape.
- Aid in the training and onboarding of new team members by demonstrating proper kitting procedures and best practices.
- Manage and process returned materials (RMAs), inspecting items and restocking them into inventory according to established procedures.
- Perform general housekeeping duties within the kitting and broader warehouse area to maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace based on 5S principles.
Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- RF Scanner Operation: Proficient in using RF (Radio Frequency) scanners or other handheld devices for picking, inventory tracking, and order processing.
- WMS/ERP Systems: Experience with or ability to quickly learn Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software for inventory transactions.
- Basic Mathematics: Strong arithmetic skills for accurate counting, verification, and basic calculations without a calculator.
- Material Handling Equipment: Ability to safely operate manual pallet jacks, hand trucks, and other non-automated warehouse equipment.
