Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Operate, set up, and tend to a range of industrial flat and/or circular knitting machines (e.g., Stoll, Shima Seiki, Lonati) for both sample development and bulk production runs.
- Interpret technical specification sheets, design sketches, and yarn information to program and configure machines for new knitwear styles.

- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex mechanical and electronic malfunctions in real-time to minimize machine downtime and production delays.
- Execute a rigorous preventative maintenance schedule, including systematic cleaning, oiling, and calibration of knitting machines to ensure peak operational efficiency and longevity.
- Develop and write new knitting programs using specialized software (e.g., Stoll M1 Plus, Shima Seiki APEX) to create intricate patterns, textures, and fully-fashioned garments.
- Meticulously monitor fabric quality during production, identifying and correcting defects such as drop stitches, holes, or inconsistencies in tension and density.
- Conduct thorough quality control inspections on finished knit panels or fabrics, ensuring they meet strict standards for weight, dimensions, and aesthetic quality.
- Adjust machine settings, including stitch length, tension, and takedown rates, to achieve the specific hand-feel, drape, and performance characteristics required by the design team.
- Repair or replace worn and damaged machine components, such as needles, sinkers, selectors, jacks, and actuators, with precision and care.
- Maintain a comprehensive library of knitting programs and technical documentation for each style, ensuring repeatability and consistency across production orders.
- Collaborate directly with designers and product developers to provide technical feedback on design feasibility and suggest alternative knitting solutions to achieve desired outcomes.
