Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Actively participate in a structured training program to learn the complete operation of industrial circular and/or flat knitting machines (e.g., Stoll, Shima Seiki).
Master the process of loading and positioning yarn cones onto machine creels, ensuring correct color and type placement according to production orders.
Learn and execute the proper techniques for threading yarn through guides, tensions, and feeders with precision and care.
Diligently monitor machine operations during production runs to immediately identify and flag any knitting defects such as dropped stitches, holes, or yarn breaks.
Assist senior operators in setting up machines for new patterns, which includes pulling new programs, changing needles, and adjusting settings.
Perform routine cleaning and basic preventative maintenance on knitting machines, including lubricating parts, cleaning needle beds, and removing lint buildup to ensure optimal performance.
Develop the ability to troubleshoot and resolve common machine stoppages and error codes with guidance from experienced technicians.
Carefully doff (remove) completed fabric rolls or garment panels from the machines upon cycle completion, ensuring no damage to the finished product.
Conduct initial quality control inspections on knitted goods, comparing them against master samples and quality standards to ensure consistency.
Learn to mend and repair minor knitting imperfections using hand-latching tools and other finishing techniques.
Accurately weigh, label, and document finished knitted pieces, maintaining precise records for inventory and production tracking.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment around the knitting machinery in compliance with all company safety policies.
Develop a foundational understanding of different yarn types, gauges, and their specific properties and behaviors during the knitting process.
Read and interpret technical specification sheets, production orders, and pattern information to ensure production accuracy.

Secondary Functions

Collaborate effectively with shift supervisors, senior knitters, and maintenance technicians to communicate production status and machine issues.
Assist in managing the local yarn inventory for your assigned machine bank, reporting low stock levels to the floor supervisor.
Support the product development and sampling team by running test swatches and providing feedback on new yarn or pattern trials.
Keep detailed logs and records of machine downtime, production output, and quality control checks for performance analysis.
Participate actively in team meetings and continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiency, quality, and safety.
Cross-train on different types of knitting machines and ancillary equipment as required to increase operational flexibility.
Adhere to all established safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and proper machine guarding.
