Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  1. Perform a diverse range of routine and complex analytical tests on biological, chemical, or physical samples in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  2. Accurately prepare, label, and log incoming samples (e.g., blood, tissue, raw materials, finished products) to ensure traceability and integrity throughout the testing lifecycle.
  3. Set up, calibrate, operate, and maintain sophisticated laboratory instruments and equipment, such as chromatographs (HPLC/GC), spectrophotometers, microscopes, and automated analyzers.
  4. Precisely document all experimental data, observations, and results in official laboratory notebooks or a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) with exceptional attention to detail.
  5. Prepare various chemical solutions, reagents, standards, and media required for specific testing protocols, ensuring accurate concentrations and formulations.
  6. Execute quality control procedures, including running controls and standards, to verify the accuracy and precision of test results and instrument performance.
  7. Analyze and interpret test results, identify deviations or out-of-spec (OOS) findings, and promptly report critical or unusual results to a supervisor or lead scientist.
  8. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment by following all safety guidelines, cleaning protocols, and proper waste disposal procedures for hazardous materials.
  9. Manage inventory of laboratory supplies, chemicals, and consumables, monitoring stock levels and initiating purchase requisitions to prevent workflow interruptions.
  10. Conduct routine preventative maintenance and basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment to minimize downtime and ensure operational readiness.
  11. Adhere strictly to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), CLIA, or other relevant regulatory standards depending on the lab's focus.
  12. Assist in the validation of new analytical methods, instrumentation, and laboratory processes to support continuous improvement and technological advancement.

Secondary Functions

  1. Participate actively in the investigation of laboratory incidents, deviations, and non-conforming results to help identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  2. Contribute to the authoring and revision of laboratory SOPs, work instructions, and technical documents to ensure they are current and accurate.
  3. Train new technicians or lab assistants on standard procedures, equipment operation, and safety protocols to foster a knowledgeable and competent team.
  4. Compile, organize, and perform preliminary analysis of data for inclusion in technical reports, research summaries, or presentations.
  5. Collaborate with colleagues from other departments, such as Research & Development, Quality Assurance, and Manufacturing, to support broader project goals.
  6. Uphold all health and safety regulations (e.g., OSHA), ensuring proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and awareness of chemical safety data sheets (SDS).
  7. Support internal and external audits by maintaining meticulous records and being prepared to explain procedures and demonstrate compliance.
  8. Engage in continuous professional development by staying informed about new techniques, technologies, and advancements within the scientific field.
  9. Perform peer review of data and lab notebook entries generated by other technicians to ensure accuracy and compliance before final approval.
  10. Assist in sample management duties, including long-term storage, retrieval, and final disposition of tested samples according to retention policies.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  1. Aseptic/Sterile Technique: Proficiency in procedures to prevent contamination, crucial for microbiology, cell culture, and molecular biology.
  2. Instrument Operation & Maintenance: Hands-on experience with common lab equipment (e.g., pipettes, centrifuges, pH meters, balances, microscopes, PCR machines, plate readers).

Education & Experience

Educational Background
