Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Design, plan, and independently execute complex, multi-stage scientific experiments to address specific research questions and objectives.
  • Develop and optimize new experimental protocols and assays, meticulously documenting methodologies for reproducibility and standardization.
  • Perform a wide range of sophisticated laboratory techniques, such as mammalian cell culture, molecular cloning, PCR/qPCR, flow cytometry, and high-resolution microscopy.
  • Meticulously collect, record, and maintain experimental data in a detailed and organized manner using electronic lab notebooks (ELNs) and other data management systems.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis and interpretation of complex experimental data, employing statistical methods and specialized software to draw valid scientific conclusions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with experiments, protocols, and laboratory instrumentation to ensure data integrity and project continuity.
  • Prepare and present research findings, progress, and data analysis at internal lab meetings, departmental seminars, and external scientific conferences.
  • Contribute significantly to the writing and preparation of scientific manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Author detailed technical reports, study summaries, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for internal use and regulatory submissions.
  • Conduct comprehensive literature reviews to stay current with the latest scientific advancements, discoveries, and methodologies in the relevant field.
  • Culture, maintain, and manipulate various cell lines, including primary cells and stem cells, using sterile and aseptic techniques.
  • Perform molecular biology procedures including DNA/RNA extraction, purification, quantification, cloning, and library preparation for next-generation sequencing (NGS).
  • Execute protein analysis techniques, including Western blotting, ELISA, immunoprecipitation, and protein purification to study protein expression and function.
  • Generate and characterize novel research tools, such as stable cell lines, plasmid constructs, or purified reagents, to support ongoing and future projects.
  • Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, technicians, and project managers to achieve shared research goals.
  • Ensure all laboratory activities are conducted in strict compliance with safety guidelines, institutional policies, and regulatory requirements (e.g., EHS, IACUC).
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior researchers, technicians, and students, fostering a collaborative and knowledgeable team environment.
  • Operate, maintain, and calibrate sophisticated laboratory equipment, ensuring it remains in optimal working condition.
  • Manage and maintain laboratory inventory, including the ordering of reagents, consumables, and other essential supplies to prevent work disruptions.
  • Assist in the preparation of grant proposals and funding applications by providing preliminary data, experimental designs, and technical writing support.

  • Mammalian Cell Culture: Extensive experience with aseptic technique for culturing and maintaining adherent, suspension, primary, and immortalized cell lines.
  • Molecular Biology Techniques: Proficiency in PCR, qPCR, molecular cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, and DNA/RNA extraction and analysis.
  • Protein Analysis: Hands-on expertise with Western blotting, ELISA, immunoprecipitation (IP), and ideally, protein purification methods.
  • Flow Cytometry: Skill in sample preparation, instrument operation, and data analysis for multi-color flow cytometry experiments.
  • Microscopy: Competence in operating and capturing images from fluorescence, confocal, or live-cell imaging microscopes.
  • Data Analysis Software: Proficiency in using scientific graphing and statistical software such as GraphPad Prism, R, or Python for data visualization and analysis.
