Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Interpret detailed work orders, job tickets, and specification sheets to determine the precise machine setup, materials, and operational sequences required for each project.
- Execute the complete setup and calibration of solvent-based or solventless laminating machines, including loading and threading rolls of film, foil, and other substrates.
- Skillfully mix and prepare adhesives, coatings, and primers according to specific formulations, ensuring proper viscosity and chemical balance for optimal bonding.
- Continuously monitor machine operations, observing gauges, dials, and controls to regulate factors like machine speed, web tension, temperature, and adhesive application rates.
- Perform meticulous in-process quality control checks to inspect for defects such as wrinkles, bubbles, delamination, and adhesive inconsistencies, making immediate adjustments to correct any issues.
- Operate material handling equipment, such as forklifts, hoists, and powered pallet jacks, to safely transport raw material rolls and finished goods throughout the facility.
- Accurately record production data, including material usage, output quantities, setup times, and downtime, using computer-based systems or manual logs for inventory and performance tracking.
- Troubleshoot and resolve common machine malfunctions and operational problems to minimize downtime and maintain production flow.
- Ensure the final laminated product is cut, wound, and finished to exact customer specifications, verifying roll dimensions, core sizes, and overall quality.
- Manage the removal of finished rolls from the machine and prepare them for the next stage of production or shipping, including proper labeling and packaging.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of various substrates, films, and adhesives, and how their properties interact during the lamination process.
- Collaborate closely with the quality assurance department to ensure all products consistently meet or exceed established quality benchmarks and standards.
- Execute changeovers between different jobs efficiently, minimizing scrap and maximizing machine uptime.
- Adhere strictly to production schedules to meet deadlines and communicate effectively with shift supervisors regarding any delays or potential issues.
Secondary Functions
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on laminating equipment, including cleaning rollers, lubricating moving parts, and inspecting for wear and tear to ensure machine longevity.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, adhering to all company safety protocols, 5S principles, and OSHA regulations.
- Assist in the training and mentorship of new or less-experienced machine operators, sharing knowledge of best practices and standard operating procedures.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, providing feedback and suggestions to enhance process efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product quality.
- Manage and maintain inventory levels of necessary supplies, such as adhesives, cleaning solvents, and machine parts, notifying purchasing when stock is low.
- Read and interpret technical manuals and diagrams to assist in troubleshooting and maintenance activities.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Laminating Machine Operation: Proven experience setting up, operating, and troubleshooting solvent-based and/or solventless laminators.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Strong ability to understand, diagnose, and resolve mechanical issues with complex machinery.
- Quality Control: Proficiency in using measurement tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauges) and visual inspection to ensure product specifications are met.
- Material Handling: Certified or experienced in operating a forklift, clamp truck, and other material handling equipment.
- Basic Mathematics: Ability to perform calculations involving fractions, decimals, and measurements for production accuracy.
- Computer Literacy: Comfortable using HMI (Human-Machine Interface) panels on machinery and basic data entry in production tracking software.
