Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Operate and maintain a variety of large format digital printers, including UV flatbeds, latex, and roll-to-roll solvent printers (e.g., Vutek, HP, Agfa, Mimaki).
- Manage and prioritize the daily print queue to meet demanding project deadlines and ensure efficient workflow across all equipment.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance, cleaning, and calibration of all printing and finishing equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Conduct rigorous quality control checks on all printed materials, inspecting for color accuracy, image quality, blemishes, and adherence to job specifications.
- Load, handle, and set up various print media, including flexible rolls (vinyl, banner) and rigid substrates (acrylic, foam board, metal), often requiring physical strength.
- Utilize RIP (Raster Image Processor) software such as Onyx, Caldera, or Fiery to process, proof, and manage digital files for printing.
- Expertly troubleshoot and resolve common printing issues, including color shifts, banding, media jams, and software errors, to minimize waste and downtime.
- Operate a range of finishing equipment, including large format laminators, digital die-cutters/routers (e.g., Zund, Esko Kongsberg), and vinyl plotters.
- Perform detailed finishing tasks such as weeding, masking, and applying vinyl graphics to various surfaces with precision.
- Read and meticulously interpret work orders, spec sheets, and proofs to ensure all production requirements, quantities, and materials are correct.
- Maintain a well-organized inventory of essential supplies, including inks, substrates, and laminates, and communicate restocking needs to management.
- Prepare and carefully package finished graphics and signage for safe shipping, delivery, or pickup, ensuring products are protected from damage.
- Communicate effectively and proactively with project managers, designers, and sales staff regarding job status, potential issues, and production timelines.
- Ensure all company safety protocols and procedures are strictly followed to maintain a safe and clean working environment for the entire team.
- Perform basic pre-flight checks and minor adjustments to client files using Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop) to ensure print readiness.
- Execute precise mounting of prints onto a variety of substrates, including foam board, Gatorboard, Sintra, and acrylic, ensuring a bubble-free finish.
- Document production data accurately, including material usage, waste tracking, and time spent on each project for costing and efficiency analysis.
- Collaborate with the installation team to ensure graphics are produced and finished correctly for seamless on-site application.
- Continuously monitor print output for imperfections during production runs and make on-the-fly adjustments to machine settings to maintain quality.
- Manage the proper disposal and recycling of waste materials, such as ink cartridges, media scraps, and chemicals, in an environmentally responsible manner.
Secondary Functions
- Assist in training and mentoring new operators and production assistants on equipment operation and workflow processes.
- Actively contribute to process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing production efficiency, reducing material waste, and improving overall quality.
- Collaborate with the finishing and fabrication departments during peak production periods to ensure team-wide goals are met.
- Stay current with emerging technologies, new materials, and innovative techniques within the large format printing industry.
Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Deep proficiency in operating large format UV flatbed and roll-to-roll printers.
- Advanced experience with RIP software (Onyx, Caldera, Fiery preferred).
- Expertise with finishing equipment, especially digital cutters/routers (Zund, Kongsberg) and large format laminators.
- Strong understanding of color management principles, color theory, and Pantone matching systems.
- Competency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) for file setup and pre-flighting.
- Proven ability to perform routine machine maintenance and troubleshoot technical issues.
- Skilled in vinyl application, weeding, masking, and mounting techniques.
- Extensive knowledge of different print substrates, inks, and their specific applications.
- Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and work orders.
- Mechanical aptitude for making fine-tune adjustments to complex machinery.

Educational Background
Minimum Education:
