Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Develop and continuously refine the comprehensive cloud strategy and architectural roadmap, ensuring its tight alignment with enterprise business objectives and long-term technology goals.
  • Lead the end-to-end design and implementation of highly available, scalable, and resilient cloud-native and hybrid cloud solutions on platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Establish, document, and enforce cloud architecture best practices, design patterns, and governance policies across the organization to ensure consistency, security, and regulatory compliance.
  • Act as the organization's foremost technical authority and subject matter expert on all matters related to cloud architecture, providing decisive guidance and consultation to both engineering teams and executive leadership.
  • Architect and design complex, modern cloud solutions that incorporate advanced concepts such as microservices, serverless computing, containerization (Kubernetes, Docker), and event-driven architectures.
  • Drive the formal evaluation and selection process for new cloud technologies, tools, and services, conducting thorough proof-of-concept projects to validate their strategic fit and value.
  • Chair and lead architectural review boards and design sessions to critique, refine, and approve significant solution designs proposed by development and infrastructure teams.
  • Champion a "cloud-first" and DevOps/GitOps mindset across the engineering organization, actively promoting automation, Infrastructure as Code, and CI/CD principles.
  • Develop and oversee the organization's cloud security framework, collaborating closely with cybersecurity teams to integrate robust security controls, threat modeling, and compliance-as-code into the architecture.
  • Create and manage a sophisticated cloud financial operations (FinOps) strategy to optimize cloud spending, forecast costs, and implement cost-saving measures without compromising performance or reliability.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop senior and junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous learning within a cloud-focused community of practice.
  • Define and manage the technical execution of complex cloud migration strategies, including re-hosting (lift-and-shift), re-platforming, and re-architecting of critical legacy applications.
  • Design and implement comprehensive monitoring, logging, and observability solutions to guarantee the health, performance, and reliability of all cloud services.
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison with major cloud service providers and key third-party vendors, managing relationships and staying ahead of new service offerings and platform changes.
  • Author and maintain high-quality, detailed documentation for cloud architectures, including design specifications, network diagrams, data flow diagrams, and operational runbooks.
  • Lead high-stakes troubleshooting efforts for complex, cross-functional production incidents, providing expert-level guidance to resolve issues rapidly and conduct effective post-mortems.
  • Collaborate with enterprise and data architects to ensure that cloud solutions integrate seamlessly with the broader IT landscape, including on-premises systems and SaaS applications.
  • Define and validate the organization's disaster recovery and business continuity plans for all cloud-based systems, ensuring critical services meet their RTO and RPO objectives.
  • Drive the deep automation of cloud infrastructure provisioning and lifecycle management using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Bicep.
  • Confidently present architectural strategies, project status, and technical recommendations to diverse audiences, from C-level executives to individual software engineers.
  • Lead the design of robust API strategies and data integration patterns for services running in the cloud, ensuring secure and efficient data flow between distributed systems.
  • Conduct continuous capacity planning and performance analysis to ensure cloud environments are right-sized and can scale efficiently to meet future business demand.

  • Expert-Level Cloud Platform Knowledge: Deep, hands-on mastery in at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, GCP), with professional-level certification and strong familiarity with multi-cloud concepts.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): True mastery of tools like Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or Azure Bicep for creating declarative, version-controlled, and reusable infrastructure.
