Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Spearhead the creative vision and high-level design direction for new and existing mobile games, ensuring a cohesive and compelling player experience from concept to live operations.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of game designers, fostering their professional growth, providing constructive feedback, and guiding their work on features and systems.
  • Design, document, and tune major game systems, including core gameplay loops, metagame progression, monetization mechanics, and social features for a F2P audience.
  • Author and maintain comprehensive Game Design Documents (GDDs), feature specifications, and content briefs that clearly communicate design intentions to the entire development team.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers to define the product strategy and feature roadmap, balancing creative goals with commercial objectives and market realities.
  • Work hand-in-hand with programmers and artists to ensure the successful implementation of game features, providing clear guidance and solving design challenges throughout the development cycle.
  • Champion the player's perspective, advocating for features and improvements that enhance fun, engagement, and long-term retention.
  • Analyze player data, A/B test results, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to make data-informed design decisions and iterate on live game features.
  • Conceptualize and design the in-game economy, ensuring it is balanced, sustainable, and supports the game's monetization strategy without compromising the player experience.
  • Drive the design and planning of live operations content, including events, sales, and new feature rollouts to keep the game fresh and engaging for the community.
  • Create and iterate on wireframes, user flows, and functional prototypes to explore and validate design concepts for core mechanics and user interfaces.
  • Pitch new game concepts, features, and strategic initiatives to studio leadership and key stakeholders, masterfully articulating the design vision and its potential impact.
  • Own the end-to-end design of major features, from the initial concept and detailed specification through to implementation, tuning, and post-launch analysis.
  • Deconstruct and analyze successful mobile games to understand the mechanics, systems, and psychological drivers behind their engagement and monetization.
  • Partner with the UI/UX team to ensure intuitive and frictionless player journeys, from onboarding to elder game content.
  • Facilitate creative brainstorming sessions and design workshops to generate innovative ideas and solve complex design problems collaboratively.
  • Develop and balance complex mathematical models and progression curves for player advancement, resource sinks/faucets, and reward structures.
  • Act as the primary design point-of-contact for cross-functional teams, including QA, Community, and Marketing, ensuring alignment on game features and content.

  • F2P Monetization: Proven ability to design and implement effective and ethical monetization strategies (IAPs, ad placements, battle passes) within a free-to-play/Games-as-a-Service model.
  • Live Operations Design: Strong understanding of the principles and practices of designing and scheduling content for a live game, including events, promotions, and content updates.
  • Prototyping: Proficiency in using tools like Unity, Unreal Engine, or other software (e.g., Figma, Adobe XD) to create playable prototypes to test and communicate design ideas.
