Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Perform a comprehensive range of cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors in designated areas like offices, hallways, and lobbies.
  • Diligently gather and empty all trash and recycling receptacles, replacing liners and transporting waste to central disposal areas in accordance with facility procedures.
  • Thoroughly clean, sanitize, and restock all restrooms, ensuring toilets, urinals, sinks, mirrors, and partitions are immaculate and supplies are plentiful.
  • Meticulously dust and wipe down all horizontal and vertical surfaces, including furniture, desks, countertops, windowsills, and office equipment.
  • Clean all interior glass surfaces, such as windows, doors, and partitions, using professional techniques and solutions to achieve a streak-free finish.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and order of employee break rooms and kitchenettes, including wiping tables, chairs, countertops, and cleaning appliance interiors/exteriors.
  • Proactively identify and report any maintenance issues, safety hazards, or needs for repair (e.g., broken fixtures, leaks, pest sightings) to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Monitor inventory levels of all cleaning chemicals, tools, and consumable supplies, submitting timely requests for replenishment to avoid work stoppages.
  • Safely and effectively operate standard janitorial equipment, such as commercial vacuums, dust mops, and wet mops, ensuring they are properly cleaned and stored after use.
  • Strictly adhere to all health and safety regulations, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and the correct handling of chemical cleaning agents (WHMIS/OSHA).
  • Provide a rapid response to incidental spills and other cleaning emergencies to mitigate safety risks and maintain a tidy appearance throughout the shift.
  • Systematically clean and disinfect high-touch point surfaces like doorknobs, light switches, elevator buttons, and handrails to minimize the transmission of germs.
  • Follow a detailed task schedule and cleaning checklist to ensure all duties are completed to the highest standard within the allotted time frame.
  • Perform periodic detailed cleaning tasks as directed, such as wiping down baseboards, dusting high fixtures, and spot-cleaning walls.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and professional appearance of building entrances, including sweeping entryways, cleaning glass doors, and maintaining floor mats.
  • Ensure the security of the facility by locking and unlocking doors at designated times and reporting any suspicious activity observed during the shift.
  • Polish metalwork and other brightwork on fixtures, fittings, and doors to maintain a pristine and well-cared-for aesthetic.
  • Communicate professionally and courteously with building occupants and team members, working to minimize disruption to their activities.
  • Refill all wall-mounted dispensers, including soap, hand sanitizer, paper towels, and toilet tissue, in restrooms and kitchens.
  • Uphold a professional demeanor and appearance at all times while representing the facilities team within the building.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist with seasonal or periodic deep cleaning projects, such as carpet shampooing or exterior window washing, under direct supervision.
  • Provide support for event setup and takedown, which may include arranging light furniture, setting up waste receptacles, and performing post-event cleanup.
  • Perform minor, non-technical maintenance tasks when requested, such as changing accessible light bulbs or tightening loose fixtures.
  • Conduct regular inspections of assigned areas to ensure cleaning standards are consistently met and report any deviations to the team lead.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Knowledge of Cleaning Chemicals: Understanding the proper use, dilution, and application of various cleaning agents for different surfaces.
