Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Manage a diverse and complex caseload independently from inception through to final resolution, including case intake, initial investigation, and strategic planning.
- Conduct extensive and sophisticated legal research on a wide array of substantive and procedural issues using digital libraries such as Westlaw, LexisNexis, and other legal research tools.
- Expertly draft, review, and file a comprehensive range of legal documents, including pleadings, dispositive motions, discovery demands and responses, settlement agreements, and appellate briefs.
- Develop and implement robust and creative litigation strategies, formulating detailed pre-trial plans and innovative settlement approaches in close collaboration with clients and senior partners.
- Serve as the primary advocate for clients in a multitude of legal proceedings, such as court hearings, status conferences, depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and complex trials.
- Meticulously prepare for and conduct depositions of parties, key witnesses, and expert witnesses to secure crucial testimony and build a strong evidentiary record.
- Skillfully and persuasively argue a variety of motions in court, presenting compelling legal arguments to judges on motions to dismiss, motions for summary judgment, and discovery disputes.
- Oversee all facets of the discovery process, including managing large-scale e-discovery, coordinating document review and production, and drafting and responding to interrogatories and requests for admission.
- Thoroughly prepare clients and witnesses for depositions, hearings, and trial testimony, ensuring they are confident, well-prepared, and able to communicate effectively under pressure.
- Engage in strategic and high-stakes settlement negotiations with opposing counsel to achieve highly favorable outcomes for clients while mitigating potential risks and litigation costs.
- Act as first or second chair in both jury and bench trials, demonstrating proficiency in all phases of trial from voir dire and opening statements to direct/cross-examinations and closing arguments.
- Maintain consistent, proactive, and transparent communication with clients, providing regular status updates, strategic legal advice, and effectively managing their expectations throughout the litigation process.
- Analyze and evaluate case value, potential liabilities, and litigation costs to provide clients with clear, data-driven recommendations for their legal strategy.
- Supervise, mentor, and provide constructive feedback to junior associates, paralegals, and legal support staff, effectively delegating tasks to ensure team efficiency and professional development.
- Identify, retain, and collaborate with expert witnesses across various disciplines, preparing them for deposition and trial testimony to support the case theory.
- Ensure unwavering compliance with all court-mandated deadlines, rules of civil procedure, and professional ethical guidelines.
