Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  1. Load outgoing freight and merchandise onto trucks or conveyors safely and efficiently according to shipping schedules and load plans.
  2. Unload inbound shipments, inspect goods for accuracy and damage, and reconcile quantities against packing lists.
  3. Process returned merchandise by sorting, inspecting, documenting and routing items for restocking, disposition or repair.
  4. Verify return documentation, enter return details into warehouse management systems and generate return authorizations.
  5. Operate pallet jacks, hand trucks, forklifts or other material handling equipment to move products within the warehouse.
  6. Stage pallets, crates and packaged products accurately in staging areas based on priority and next steps.
  7. Inspect returned goods for quality defects, damage and labeling issues, and document findings for inventory correction.
  8. Assist with stock replenishment and put‑away tasks, ensuring correct placement in designated storage locations.
  9. Follow warehouse safety protocols, maintain clean work areas and identify potential hazards to reduce workplace incidents.
  10. Count, verify and record inventory levels during receiving, returns processing and order fulfillment.
  11. Prepare items for shipment by wrapping, labeling and securing loads to prevent damage in transit.
  12. Collaborate with shipping, receiving and inventory teams to support timely order fulfillment.
  13. Assist with periodic cycle counts, inventory audits and reconciliation of discrepancies.
  14. Respond promptly to supervisor requests for returns tracking, documentation or corrective actions.
  15. Report damaged or unsatisfactory materials and escalate issues for resolution.
  16. Maintain accurate records of load activities, return transactions and movement logs.
  17. Receive instructions for special handling or expedited shipment and prioritize loads accordingly.
  18. Assist with weekly or monthly performance reporting for return rates and loading productivity.
  19. Support onboarding and training of new team members on returns and loading procedures.
  20. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize return processing and loading efficiency.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad‑hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Proficiency with warehouse management systems (WMS), inventory tracking and returns processing tools.
  • Ability to safely operate material handling equipment including pallet jacks and forklifts (certification preferred).
  • Strong understanding of loading/unloading procedures and shipping documentation.
  • Competency in barcode scanning, RF systems and data entry for inventory accuracy.
  • Knowledge of inventory control, staging, staging, and stock rotation processes.
  • Ability to identify product condition issues and accurately report damages.
  • Familiarity with safety standards, OSHA guidelines and proper PPE usage.
  • Experience preparing shipment loads following load plans and route orders.
  • Ability to handle warehouse documentation, returns forms and logbooks accurately.
  • Basic physical inventory and cycle count experience.
