Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Supervise, lead, and mentor a team of warehouse associates, forklift operators, and shipping/receiving clerks, overseeing daily schedules, workload delegation, and performance management.
  • Direct and coordinate all inbound and outbound logistics operations, including receiving, put-away, storage, order picking, packing, and shipping to meet customer and business deadlines.
  • Champion and enforce a robust safety culture, ensuring all operations are compliant with OSHA regulations and internal company safety policies to maintain a zero-incident workplace.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time shipping, order accuracy, inventory accuracy, and labor productivity, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Manage inventory control systems and processes, overseeing cycle counts, physical inventories, and discrepancy investigations to ensure high levels of inventory accuracy.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using lean principles or other methodologies to enhance operational efficiency, reduce waste, and lower operational costs.
  • Train and develop team members on standard operating procedures (SOPs), equipment operation (including MHE), and warehouse management system (WMS) usage.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for resolving daily operational issues, including equipment malfunctions, inventory shortages, and carrier-related problems.
  • Coordinate with transportation providers and freight carriers to schedule pickups and deliveries, ensuring timely dispatch and negotiating cost-effective solutions.
  • Maintain the physical condition of the warehouse by planning and implementing efficient layouts, inspecting equipment, and initiating requisitions for repairs or replacements.
  • Oversee the accurate documentation and record-keeping for all shipments, receipts, and inventory movements within the WMS and ERP systems.
  • Conduct regular team meetings and daily huddles to communicate goals, safety reminders, and operational updates, fostering a collaborative and engaged team environment.
  • Manage employee performance through regular feedback, coaching, formal performance reviews, and disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Plan and allocate labor resources effectively to match workload demands, managing overtime and temporary staffing to control labor costs.
  • Ensure all customer orders are picked, packed, and shipped accurately and in accordance with specific customer requirements and routing guides.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including customer service, procurement, and production, to resolve issues and ensure a smooth end-to-end supply chain.
  • Investigate and document any shipping errors, damages, or customer complaints, implementing preventative measures to improve quality and service.
  • Manage the allocation and maintenance of material handling equipment (MHE), ensuring proper usage, daily inspections, and timely service.
  • Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all key logistics processes to ensure consistency and operational excellence.
  • Support budget management by monitoring operational expenses, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and providing input for departmental budget planning.
  • Ensure the facility maintains a high standard of cleanliness and organization, promoting a 5S or similar workplace organization methodology.

Secondary Functions

  • Support senior management with budget forecasting and resource planning for the logistics department.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects aimed at improving overall supply chain efficiency and site-wide processes.
  • Assist in the evaluation and implementation of new logistics technology, software, or equipment.
  • Act as a backup for the Logistics Manager and other supervisors during absences to ensure operational continuity.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Warehouse Management Systems (WMS): Advanced proficiency in using WMS platforms (e.g., Manhattan, Blue Yonder, SAP EWM, Oracle WMS) for inventory, order, and labor management.
  • ERP Systems: Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics) for transaction processing and data alignment.
  • MS Office Suite: Strong skills in Microsoft Excel for data analysis, reporting, and creating pivot tables, as well as proficiency in Word and Outlook.
  • Inventory Management: Deep understanding of inventory control techniques, including cycle counting, ABC analysis, and reconciliation.
  • Safety & Compliance: In-depth knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and other relevant federal and state safety regulations for warehouse and transportation operations.
  • Data Analysis & KPIs: Ability to track, analyze, and interpret key logistics metrics to drive decision-making and performance improvement.
  • Logistics & Transportation Coordination: Experience in coordinating with LTL/FTL carriers, managing freight, and understanding shipping documentation (BOLs).

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 3-5 years of experience in a logistics, warehouse, or distribution environment, including at least 1-2 years in a leadership or supervisory capacity.

  • Experience implementing Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies in a warehouse setting.
  • Forklift certification or extensive experience in operating various types of material handling equipment (MHE).
  • Experience in a high-volume, multi-shift distribution center environment.
