As a Lot Attendant, you are the backbone of the dealership's operations and the first impression for many of our customers. You are responsible for the organization, presentation, and logistical management of our entire vehicle inventory. This active, hands-on role requires a keen eye for detail, a strong sense of responsibility, and the drive to ensure our lot is always pristine and our vehicles are show-ready. You will work closely with the sales, service, and detail departments to facilitate a smooth flow of operations, directly contributing to our efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Meticulously organize and arrange new and pre-owned vehicles on the dealership lot to create a visually appealing, shoppable display that maximizes space and highlights key inventory.
  • Safely and efficiently transport vehicles between various dealership locations, including the main lot, service department, detail bay, and off-site storage facilities.
  • Conduct regular and thorough physical inventory counts, verifying the location, status, and stock number of all vehicles against the inventory management system to ensure data accuracy.
  • Prepare vehicles for final customer delivery, performing a final quality check to ensure they are immaculately cleaned, fully fueled, and have all necessary paperwork and accessories.
  • Check in new vehicles delivered from manufacturers or auctions, carefully inspecting them for any in-transit damage and accurately documenting their condition upon arrival.
  • Manage the dealership's key tracking system with precision, ensuring all vehicle keys are securely stored, tagged, and accounted for at all times to prevent loss.
  • Assist the sales team by promptly locating and retrieving specific vehicles from inventory for customer test drives, walk-arounds, and appraisals.
  • Ensure all vehicles on the lot are properly merchandised with correct pricing stickers, FTC Buyer's Guides, and any promotional materials as directed by management.
  • Maintain the readiness of the entire vehicle inventory by monitoring battery levels, jump-starting vehicles as needed, and checking tire pressure and fluid levels.
  • Perform light reconditioning tasks such as washing, vacuuming, and wiping down vehicle interiors and exteriors to keep the inventory in "show-ready" condition.
  • Keep the dealership lot, service drive, and showroom entrance areas clean, professional, and free of trash, debris, and hazards, including snow and ice removal during winter months.
  • Report any observed vehicle malfunctions, warning lights, or cosmetic imperfections to the appropriate Service Manager or Sales Manager for prompt resolution.

Secondary Functions

  • Greet and welcome customers arriving at the dealership, providing a positive first impression and directing them to the appropriate department or team member.
  • Operate as a shuttle driver, providing courteous and safe transportation for service customers to and from their homes or workplaces.
  • Run dealership-related errands, such as delivering documents to other businesses, picking up parts from suppliers, or transferring vehicles between dealership locations.
  • Assist with the setup and teardown of special on-site sales events, marketing displays, and promotional activities.
  • Place and remove protective plastic coverings and floor mats in vehicles entering the service department to protect customer property.
  • Support the Service Department by moving vehicles in and out of service bays to improve technician efficiency and workflow.
  • Monitor lot activity and report any suspicious behavior or potential security risks to management immediately to ensure a safe environment.
  • Collaborate with the detail department to manage the flow of vehicles needing reconditioning, ensuring a timely turnaround from acquisition to front-line readiness.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Valid Driver's License & Clean Driving Record: A mandatory requirement for operating company and customer vehicles.
  • Vehicle Operation: Ability to proficiently drive vehicles of various sizes, including both automatic and manual transmissions.
  • Spatial Awareness: Excellent ability to maneuver and park vehicles in tight spaces without causing damage.
  • Physical Stamina: Capable of standing, walking, and being on your feet for extended periods in various weather conditions.
  • Basic Computer Literacy: Ability to use basic inventory software, email, and key tracking systems.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Preferred Education:

  • Post-secondary certificate in Automotive Technology or a related field is a plus.

Relevant Fields of Study:

  • Automotive Technology
  • Business Management

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 0 - 2 years. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in a role requiring driving or vehicle handling (e.g., valet, car rental, delivery driver) is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience at an auto dealership, detail shop, or car wash is considered a strong asset but not required. We are willing to train the right candidate with a great attitude and strong work ethic.
