Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Meticulously organize and arrange new and pre-owned vehicles on the lot to create a visually appealing, shoppable display that maximizes space and curb appeal.
  • Manage the constant flow of vehicle traffic within the lot, including customer vehicles, trade-ins, new inventory arrivals, and cars moving to and from the service department.
  • Greet and guide customers who enter the lot, answering initial questions and directing them to the appropriate sales or service personnel with a friendly and professional demeanor.
  • Conduct thorough check-ins of all new vehicle arrivals, carefully inspecting for and documenting any in-transit damage to protect the dealership's assets.
  • Prepare vehicles for customer delivery by ensuring they are spotlessly clean, fully fueled, and have all necessary accessories and paperwork in place for a premium handover experience.
  • Maintain the overall cleanliness and safety of the vehicle lot and showroom display areas, including removing trash, clearing debris, and addressing weather-related hazards like snow or ice.
  • Safely transport vehicles between the dealership, off-site storage lots, auction houses, and other dealership locations as required by inventory needs.
  • Provide crucial support to the Service Department by moving customer vehicles from the service drive to the technician's bay and back, enhancing department efficiency.
  • Perform regular visual inspections of lot inventory to identify and report any potential issues such as low tire pressure, dead batteries, or new cosmetic blemishes.
  • Execute a rigorous key management process, cataloging, securing, and tracking all vehicle keys to ensure they are accounted for and readily available for staff.
  • Promptly refuel vehicles as needed, ensuring that both frontline display cars and vehicles scheduled for test drives or delivery have adequate fuel levels.
  • Respond swiftly to requests from the sales team to locate and retrieve specific vehicles from the lot or storage areas for customer test drives.
  • Assist in performing periodic physical inventory counts and audits, reconciling the vehicles on the lot with the dealership's inventory management system.
  • Affix and maintain proper stock tags, pricing stickers, and informational buyers' guides on all vehicles to comply with regulations and support the sales process.
  • Act as a vigilant presence on the lot, monitoring for suspicious activity and ensuring that vehicles are locked and secure outside of business hours.
  • Operate dealership equipment, such as an automatic car wash or pressure washer, to keep the entire vehicle inventory in pristine, showroom-quality condition.
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with sales managers, service advisors, and other team members regarding vehicle location, status, and movement.
  • Place and maintain approved promotional materials, such as banners or flags, on the lot to support ongoing sales events and marketing campaigns.
  • Carefully maneuver and stage vehicles within the indoor showroom, often in tight spaces, to create compelling and fresh displays.
  • Jump-start vehicles with dead batteries and perform basic troubleshooting to ensure all inventory is operational and ready to be shown.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist with light facility maintenance duties as needed, such as tidying up customer waiting areas, clearing walkways, or changing lightbulbs in the showroom.
  • Provide occasional shuttle service for service customers, offering them a safe and courteous ride to their home or workplace.
  • Support the setup and breakdown of materials for special on-site events, such as weekend sales promotions, new model launches, or community gatherings.
  • Perform basic vehicle upkeep tasks during downtime, including checking fluid levels, topping off washer fluid, and ensuring tire pressures are to spec.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Full proficiency in operating both automatic and manual transmission vehicles with confidence and safety.
  • Possession of a valid, state-issued driver's license and a clean, insurable driving record is non-negotiable.
  • Ability to safely operate lot maintenance equipment, which may include pressure washers, snow blowers, and floor scrubbers.
  • Foundational knowledge of vehicle components for performing basic inspections (e.g., identifying low tire pressure, checking oil levels, recognizing warning lights).
  • Competency in using digital tools such as smartphones or tablets to interact with inventory management software and key tracking applications.
  • Exceptional spatial awareness and skill in maneuvering vehicles safely in confined spaces, such as a crowded lot or a service bay.
  • Familiarity with professional automotive detailing and cleaning techniques, products, and equipment.
