Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Operate various industrial saws, including cross-cut, rip, miter, and component saws, to cut lumber to specified dimensions according to blueprints, cut sheets, and work orders.
Set up, calibrate, and adjust saw blades and machine settings to ensure precision and compliance with job specifications.
Meticulously measure and mark lumber using tape measures, squares, and other marking tools to guide cutting operations.
Perform rigorous quality control checks on both raw materials and finished pieces to identify defects, such as knots, splits, or warping, ensuring only quality material is processed.
Interpret complex design drawings and cutting lists to determine the required cuts, angles, and quantities for each project.
Systematically stack, sort, and organize cut lumber, preparing it for the next stage of production or for shipment.
Adhere strictly to all company safety protocols and OSHA regulations, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and machine guarding.
Conduct routine and preventative maintenance on saws and related equipment, including blade changes, lubrication, and cleaning, to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
Troubleshoot and resolve minor equipment malfunctions to minimize downtime and maintain production flow.
Maximize material yield by strategically planning cuts to minimize waste and scrap, contributing directly to cost-control efforts.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by regularly clearing debris and storing tools and materials properly.
Accurately complete production reports and data logs, documenting quantities cut, materials used, and any production issues.
Collaborate closely with team members, supervisors, and other departments to meet daily and weekly production targets.
Operate material handling equipment, such as forklifts or pallet jacks, to safely move raw and finished lumber throughout the facility.

Secondary Functions

Assist in the receiving and unloading of raw lumber shipments, verifying quantities and inspecting for quality.
Participate in regular inventory counts of both raw materials and finished goods to ensure accurate stock levels.
Provide training and guidance to new or less-experienced team members on safe and efficient equipment operation.
Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding material shortages, equipment problems, or potential safety hazards.
Sort and grade lumber based on species, size, and quality characteristics prior to the cutting process.
Support other production areas as needed to ensure overall plant efficiency and to meet fluctuating demands.
