Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Execute the complete mechanical assembly of custom, automated machinery from the ground up, strictly adhering to complex engineering blueprints, 3D models, and assembly drawings.
- Perform high-precision fitting, alignment, and calibration of critical components such as linear motion guides, ball screws, servo motors, and robotic end-of-arm tooling.
- Install, plumb, and test pneumatic and hydraulic systems, including routing tubing and hoses, mounting valves and cylinders, and ensuring leak-free, functional operation.
- Build and wire machine control panels, operator consoles, and junction boxes from detailed electrical schematics, ensuring all wiring is neat, labeled, and adheres to safety standards.
- Mount and wire all machine-level electrical devices, including sensors, motors, safety switches, light curtains, and vision systems.
- Conduct initial machine power-up procedures and perform comprehensive I/O checks to verify that all electrical components are correctly wired and communicating with the PLC.
- Systematically debug and troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical issues encountered during the build and testing phases, documenting and resolving each problem.
- Collaborate directly with Mechanical and Controls Engineers to provide critical feedback on designs, identify potential assembly issues, and suggest improvements for manufacturability and serviceability.
- Utilize a wide array of hand tools, power tools, and precision measurement instruments, such as calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and torque wrenches, to ensure assembly accuracy.
- Perform basic machining and fabrication tasks using manual lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drill presses to modify or create brackets, spacers, and other components as needed for the build.
- Manage the build timeline for assigned projects, ensuring key milestones are met and quality standards are maintained throughout the entire assembly and testing process.
- Interpret and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) specifications from drawings to guarantee precise fit and function of assembled parts.
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) by running the machine through its operational sequences to validate performance against design criteria, often in the presence of the customer.
- Prepare completed machinery for shipment, which may involve partial disassembly, securing components, building custom crates, and completing shipping documentation.
Secondary Functions
- Travel to customer facilities for on-site installation, final commissioning, and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) of the equipment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by following all company safety protocols and embracing principles like 5S.
