Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Actively assist the lead Machine Operator with the complete setup, calibration, and adjustment of production machinery according to detailed job specifications and production schedules.
  • Responsible for the safe and efficient loading of raw materials, such as plastics, metals, paper, or textiles, into machine hoppers, feeders, and conveyors.
  • Carefully monitor machine operations to detect any malfunctions, such as jams, misfeeds, or unusual noises, and promptly alert the primary operator or supervisor.
  • Perform basic, routine quality control checks on finished parts and products, using gauges, calipers, or visual inspection to ensure they meet strict company standards.
  • Off-bear finished products from the machine's output conveyor, carefully stacking, sorting, and preparing them for the next stage of production or shipping.
  • Safely operate material handling equipment, such as pallet jacks, dollies, or forklifts (if certified), to move raw materials and finished goods throughout the facility.
  • Assist in routine and preventative maintenance tasks, including lubricating machine parts, cleaning filters, and tightening bolts as directed by the operator or maintenance team.
  • Read and interpret work orders, blueprints, and production schedules to understand the specific requirements for each job run.
  • Keep a steady supply of necessary production materials, like boxes, labels, and packaging supplies, available at the workstation to prevent downtime.
  • Assist with machine changeovers between production runs, which includes cleaning components, swapping out tooling, and preparing the machine for the next product.
  • Observe all machine and process settings during operation to ensure they remain within the optimal parameters established by the lead operator.
  • Package, label, and palletize finished goods according to customer specifications, ensuring accuracy and proper handling to prevent damage.
  • Accurately count and record production output, scrap, and downtime on daily production logs or into a digital tracking system.

Secondary Functions

  • Diligently maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area around the machinery by sweeping floors, wiping down equipment, and properly storing tools.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, including wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Participate actively in safety training sessions and contribute to a culture of safety by reporting potential hazards or unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and quality control personnel to ensure a smooth and collaborative workflow.
  • Support inventory management by assisting with cycle counts and reporting any discrepancies in raw material or supply levels.
  • Dispose of scrap, waste, and recyclable materials in the designated containers, contributing to the facility's sustainability and cleanliness goals.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the entire production process to better anticipate the needs of the machine and the lead operator.
  • Perform other general labor duties as assigned by the shift supervisor to support the overall objectives of the production floor.

  • Basic Mechanical Aptitude: A fundamental understanding of how machines work and the ability to use hand and power tools for minor adjustments and maintenance.
  • Measurement Proficiency: The ability to accurately read a tape measure, ruler, and other basic measurement instruments to verify product specifications.
  • Material Handling: Experience or ability to be trained in operating material handling equipment like manual/electric pallet jacks.
  • Computer Literacy: Basic skills to interact with HMI (Human-Machine Interface) screens on equipment and for basic data entry tasks.
