Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Execute comprehensive preventive and predictive maintenance schedules on all production and facility equipment, including conveyors, pumps, motors, gearboxes, and packaging lines to minimize unplanned downtime.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex equipment malfunctions by observing operation, listening for issues, and using precision measuring and testing instruments to locate the source of problems.
  • Dismantle, repair, and reassemble defective machinery and equipment, replacing faulty components such as bearings, motors, belts, and hydraulic/pneumatic parts.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and repair of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including cylinders, valves, pumps, and compressors, ensuring they operate to specification.
  • Read and interpret complex engineering blueprints, technical manuals, and electrical/pneumatic schematics to understand equipment operation and perform repairs.
  • Perform skilled metal fabrication and welding (MIG, TIG, Stick) to repair existing parts or create new components, guards, and fixtures as needed.
  • Respond immediately to urgent equipment breakdowns during production shifts, working efficiently to resolve issues and safely return machinery to service.
  • Install, align, and commission new machinery and equipment, ensuring it is set up correctly and integrated seamlessly into existing production lines.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) on recurring equipment failures to identify underlying problems and implement permanent corrective actions.
  • Maintain and repair facility infrastructure, including HVAC systems, air compressors, lighting, and plumbing, to ensure a safe and functional work environment.
  • Document all maintenance work, parts usage, and repair details accurately and thoroughly within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are performed in strict compliance with safety protocols, especially Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO), confined space entry, and hot work procedures.
  • Operate material handling equipment such as forklifts, scissor lifts, and aerial booms to access and transport machinery for maintenance purposes.
  • Calibrate and adjust machinery to fine-tune performance, ensuring product quality and operational efficiency meet company standards.
  • Perform precision maintenance tasks, including shaft and coupling alignment, using laser alignment tools or dial indicators.

Secondary Functions

  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior mechanics and apprentices, sharing knowledge and best practices for equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams on continuous improvement projects and Kaizen events aimed at enhancing equipment reliability and production efficiency.
  • Manage and maintain an organized inventory of spare parts, tools, and supplies, initiating purchase orders to replenish stock as necessary.
  • Assist in developing and refining preventive maintenance procedures and checklists for new and existing equipment.
  • Participate actively in plant safety committees, contributing to safety audits, risk assessments, and the development of new safety initiatives.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Deep proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing complex hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Expertise in mechanical systems, including power transmissions, gearboxes, pumps, bearings, and conveyor systems.
  • Advanced ability to read and interpret technical documentation, including mechanical blueprints, electrical schematics, and P&IDs.
  • Proven welding and metal fabrication skills (MIG, TIG, Stick) for repair and custom part creation.
  • Strong working knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including 480V 3-phase motors, VFDs, and motor control circuits.
  • Experience utilizing a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) such as SAP PM, Maximo, or similar platforms.
  • Proficiency in using precision measurement tools like calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators.
  • Familiarity with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), primarily for troubleshooting and diagnosing I/O issues.
  • Knowledge and strict adherence to OSHA safety standards, particularly Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO).
  • Experience with predictive maintenance (PdM) technologies such as vibration analysis or thermal imaging is a strong plus.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Preferred Education:

  • Associate's Degree or Technical Diploma in Industrial Maintenance Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Completion of a state-certified Mechanical or Electrical Apprenticeship program.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 3-7 years of hands-on experience as a Maintenance Mechanic or Technician in an industrial manufacturing, distribution, or production environment.

Preferred: 5+ years of experience in a similar role with a proven track record of maintaining and troubleshooting automated equipment, CNC machinery, or high-speed packaging lines. Experience in a food-grade or cGMP environment is highly desirable for relevant industries.
