Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Execute the installation, alignment, and commissioning of new industrial machinery and heavy equipment according to complex blueprints, schematic drawings, and engineering specifications.
- Perform comprehensive preventive and predictive maintenance tasks on mechanical systems, including pumps, compressors, conveyors, gearboxes, and production machinery, to ensure operational reliability.
- Systematically diagnose and troubleshoot sources of mechanical malfunction or failure in hydraulic, pneumatic, and power transmission systems using diagnostic tools and logical problem-solving.
- Dismantle, repair, and reassemble machinery and equipment, replacing defective parts such as bearings, seals, gears, and motors with precision and care.
- Fabricate and repair machine parts using a variety of shop equipment, including lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drill presses, when replacement parts are not readily available.
- Perform advanced rigging, lifting, and hoisting operations to safely move, position, and secure heavy machinery and components during installation or repair.
- Conduct precision alignment of rotating equipment, such as motors, pumps, and fans, using laser alignment tools and dial indicators to minimize vibration and wear.
- Read and interpret intricate technical manuals, blueprints, and isometric drawings to understand equipment assembly, operation, and repair procedures.
- Perform various welding tasks (e.g., SMAW, MIG, TIG) and cutting operations to fabricate or repair structural components, guards, and equipment frames.
- Install and maintain power transmission systems, including belts, chains, sprockets, and couplings, ensuring proper tension and alignment.
- Service and repair fluid power systems by replacing hydraulic and pneumatic lines, cylinders, valves, and pumps.
- Monitor equipment operation through vibration analysis, thermography, and other predictive maintenance (PdM) techniques to identify potential failures before they occur.
- Maintain accurate and detailed maintenance logs, work orders, and repair reports using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Adhere strictly to all plant safety and environmental regulations, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, hot work, and fall protection procedures.
- Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, scissor lifts, and boom lifts to access and transport materials and machinery.
- Grout and anchor machinery bases and frames to ensure stable and level installation.
- Overhaul and rebuild major equipment components during planned shutdowns and turnarounds.
- Perform pipefitting tasks, including cutting, threading, and installing piping for various fluid and gas systems.
- Calibrate and adjust machinery components and instrumentation to meet production specifications and quality standards.
- Respond to emergency breakdown calls in a timely and effective manner to minimize production downtime and restore equipment to a safe operational state.
