Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Act as the primary resource for the most complex and elusive diagnostic challenges that other technicians are unable to resolve, applying advanced problem-solving skills to find effective solutions.
- Perform comprehensive vehicle inspections and conduct advanced diagnostics on all major automotive systems, including engine, transmission, electrical, steering, suspension, braking, and climate control.
- Execute complex repairs and maintenance tasks with exceptional precision and efficiency, strictly adhering to manufacturer specifications and dealership quality standards.
- Serve as a technical leader and mentor for apprentice and line technicians, providing on-the-job training, diagnostic assistance, and guidance on complex repair procedures.
- Meticulously document all diagnostic steps, performed work, and parts used on repair orders, creating a clear and accurate record for both the customer and dealership history.
- Demonstrate mastery in reading and interpreting complex electrical wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical service bulletins (TSBs) to diagnose and repair intricate electrical and electronic system faults.
- Collaborate closely with Service Advisors to provide clear, detailed technical explanations of diagnosed issues and recommended repairs, enabling transparent communication with customers.
- Conduct thorough pre- and post-repair test drives to verify and validate repairs, ensuring all vehicle systems function correctly and the initial customer complaint has been resolved.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging automotive technologies, including hybrid/EV systems, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), and telematics, through continuous manufacturer and industry training.
- Perform precise calibration of Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS), such as lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and collision avoidance systems, following strict OEM procedures.
- Perform warranty-covered repairs with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring all procedures and documentation meet the stringent requirements of the manufacturer.
- Execute complete engine and transmission teardowns, overhauls, and rebuilds, requiring a high level of mechanical aptitude and precision.
- Efficiently manage and prioritize a demanding workload of complex diagnostic and repair jobs, maintaining high-quality output in a fast-paced service environment.
- Take ownership of and resolve comeback repairs efficiently and effectively, performing root cause analysis to prevent future recurrences and ensure ultimate customer satisfaction.
- Accurately estimate repair times for complex jobs, factoring in diagnostic time, parts availability, and potential unforeseen challenges to manage shop workflow and customer expectations.
- Liaise effectively with the parts department to identify and order correct components for complex repairs, minimizing vehicle downtime and ensuring repair efficiency.
- Expertly operate and maintain a wide range of specialized diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and shop machinery, ensuring they remain in proper working condition.
- Offer constructive feedback and recommendations to service management regarding shop equipment upgrades, tooling needs, and the technical skill progression of other technicians.
- Perform final quality control checks to confirm that all repairs are completed to the highest standard and the vehicle is safe and reliable for the customer.
- Actively participate in the onboarding and skill development of new technicians, sharing expert knowledge and best practices to build a high-performing service team.
Secondary Functions
- Uphold a pristine and organized work bay, adhering to all shop safety protocols and environmental regulations to ensure a safe and efficient working environment for the entire team.
- Assist the Service Manager in evaluating and test-driving trade-in vehicles to assess their mechanical condition.
- Participate in manufacturer-led advanced training sessions to stay current with emerging automotive technologies and repair methodologies.
- Provide input on warranty claim submissions, ensuring all technical details are accurate and comprehensively documented.
Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- ASE Master Certification (A1-A8) is required; L1, L3, or L4 advanced certifications are highly preferred.
- Advanced proficiency with OEM and aftermarket diagnostic scan tools (e.g., IDS, Tech2, GDS2, Autel, Snap-on), oscilloscopes, and multimeters.
- Expertise in diagnosing and repairing complex electrical systems, including CAN bus, LIN bus, and other vehicle network communication systems.
- Certified and experienced in high-voltage system diagnosis, repair, and safety procedures for Hybrid (HEV) and Electric Vehicles (EV).
- Proficiency in Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) calibration, diagnostics, and repair.
- Deep understanding of modern engine management systems, direct fuel injection, variable valve timing, and emission control systems.
- Section 609-certified for HVAC system diagnosis and repair.
- Ability to expertly read and interpret complex technical manuals, wiring schematics, and flow charts.
- Skilled in performing delicate wiring harness repairs, pin-fitting, and component-level soldering.
- Experience with major component replacement and internal repair, including engine and transmission work.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and the ability to operate a manual transmission.

Education & Experience
Educational Background
Minimum Education:
