Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Assist senior technicians in performing comprehensive vehicle maintenance and repairs, including work on engines, transmissions, brakes, and suspension systems.
Perform fundamental maintenance tasks under supervision, such as conducting oil and filter changes, rotating and balancing tires, and replacing windshield wipers and air filters.
Prepare vehicles for service by driving them into the service bay, positioning them securely on hydraulic lifts, and ensuring they are ready for inspection.
Retrieve and deliver necessary parts, tools, and supplies from the parts department to technicians to minimize downtime and maintain workflow.
Execute basic diagnostic tests and visual inspections, reporting findings directly to the supervising mechanic to aid in identifying vehicle issues.
Operate a variety of shop equipment, including tire mounting machines, wheel balancers, and fluid exchange systems, adhering to all safety guidelines.
Handle the disassembly and reassembly of vehicle components as instructed, ensuring all parts are cleaned, organized, and correctly reinstalled.
Perform thorough multi-point inspections on customer vehicles to identify potential safety issues or upcoming maintenance needs.
Maintain and top off all essential vehicle fluids, including coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid, and washer fluid, to manufacturer specifications.
Replace worn or damaged components like brake pads, rotors, belts, and hoses under the guidance and final review of a certified technician.
Assist with road testing vehicles before and after repairs to verify that service was completed correctly and the initial issue has been resolved.
Learn and apply knowledge of technical service bulletins and recall information to ensure all repairs meet current manufacturer standards.
Use basic electronic testing equipment, such as multimeters, to check battery health, alternator output, and simple electrical circuits.
Keep accurate and detailed notes on repair orders regarding the tasks performed, parts used, and time spent on each job.
Safely handle and dispose of hazardous materials, such as used oil, coolant, and old batteries, in accordance with environmental regulations and shop policies.

Secondary Functions

Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and safety of the entire service garage, including sweeping floors, cleaning workbenches, and properly storing tools.
Assist with the management of shop supply inventory by taking stock of consumables, reporting low levels, and restocking items as they arrive.
Perform routine maintenance and cleaning on shop tools and equipment to ensure they remain in safe and proper working order.
Shuttle customers or move vehicles between the service bay, parking areas, and detail center as directed by the service manager.
Support the parts department by helping to receive, unpack, and organize incoming parts shipments during peak times.
Provide general assistance around the shop as needed, demonstrating a proactive and team-oriented approach to all tasks.

Required Skills & Competencies

Educational Background

ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Entry-Level Certification is a strong plus.
