Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Conduct rigorous on-site inspections of all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems during various stages of construction to verify conformance with approved project drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
- Meticulously review and interpret MEP design drawings, shop drawings, and material submittals to ensure they align with contract documents and applicable building codes before and during installation.
- Generate and manage detailed inspection reports, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and punch lists, clearly documenting all findings, deficiencies, and required corrective actions with photographic evidence.
- Witness and formally document the testing and commissioning of MEP systems, including pressure tests, flushing, circuit testing, and equipment start-up, to ensure they meet performance criteria.
- Proactively monitor all on-site construction activities to ensure adherence to approved Method Statements, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and project-specific safety protocols.
- Liaise directly with contractors' site personnel to provide clear instructions, address queries, and ensure that any identified quality or compliance issues are rectified in a timely manner.
- Attend and actively participate in regular site meetings, including progress meetings, quality control workshops, and coordination meetings with the project management and engineering teams.
- Maintain a comprehensive and organized daily log of all inspection activities, site observations, and verbal instructions given to the contractor's team.
- Verify that all materials and equipment delivered to the site for MEP works match the approved material submittals and meet the project's quality and technical requirements.
- Review and validate the contractor's as-built drawings to ensure they accurately reflect the final, installed condition of the MEP systems prior to project handover.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to the construction team on installation best practices, code requirements, and interpretation of technical specifications.
- Systematically track the status of all identified snags and deficiencies from issuance to final close-out, ensuring all remedial work is completed to the required standard.
- Enforce strict adherence to project health, safety, and environmental (HSE) plans, immediately reporting any unsafe conditions or practices observed on site.
- Coordinate with independent third-party testing agencies and local authority inspectors to facilitate their inspections and ensure all regulatory approvals are achieved.
- Evaluate the quality of workmanship for all MEP installations, including ductwork, piping, conduit runs, wiring, and equipment setting, against industry benchmarks and project standards.
- Assist the project team in resolving complex technical queries and site-based challenges by investigating issues and proposing practical, compliant solutions.
- Review and comment on the contractor's proposed work schedules to ensure that adequate time is allocated for inspections, testing, and any required rework.
- Perform final inspections of completed work areas to confirm their readiness for handover to the client or subsequent construction phases.
- Participate in the final project walk-through and assist in the compilation of the comprehensive handover documentation package.
- Interpret complex P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) and electrical single-line diagrams to ensure correct installation and system connectivity on site.
