Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Receive, unload, and unpack incoming merchandise shipments from trucks and delivery vehicles, verifying items against invoices or packing slips.
  • Diligently inspect all received goods for damages, defects, or discrepancies, and accurately report any issues to the appropriate supervisor or department.
  • Utilize handheld RF scanners and other inventory management technology to accurately log and track new merchandise into the company's system.
  • Prepare merchandise for the sales floor by expertly applying price tickets, barcodes, and security tags according to company standards and guidelines.
  • Sort, hang, fold, and organize apparel and other products by size, style, and color to facilitate efficient stocking and replenishment.
  • Transfer processed merchandise from the stockroom to the sales floor, placing it in designated areas or departments as directed by visual merchandising plans.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe stockroom environment, ensuring that pathways are clear and merchandise is stored in a structured and accessible manner.
  • Execute inventory replenishment tasks by identifying low-stock items on the sales floor and pulling the necessary products from backstock.
  • Process customer returns, online order fulfillments, and store-to-store transfers, ensuring items are properly logged and prepared for resale or shipping.
  • Collaborate closely with the sales team and management to communicate new arrivals and ensure product knowledge is shared effectively.
  • Efficiently manage the flow of goods, prioritizing high-velocity items to maximize sales opportunities and meet customer demand.
  • Adhere strictly to all loss prevention and safety protocols, including proper handling of security sensors and reporting of suspicious activity.
  • Assemble and set up promotional displays, fixtures, and signage as needed to support marketing campaigns and seasonal changes.
  • Assist in conducting regular cycle counts and full physical inventory audits to ensure the accuracy of stock records.
  • Prepare and package outbound shipments, including defective merchandise returns to vendors and transfers to other locations, ensuring proper documentation.

Secondary Functions

  • Provide support on the sales floor during peak business hours or short-staffed situations, assisting customers and processing transactions.
  • Contribute to the store's overall cleanliness and presentation standards, including light housekeeping duties in both the stockroom and sales areas.
  • Assist the visual merchandising team with floor sets, mannequin styling, and updates to product displays.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions to stay current on new products, procedures, and company initiatives.
  • Manage the disposition of damaged or obsolete inventory according to company policy, which may include marking items for clearance or disposal.
  • Handle and organize backstock efficiently, ensuring older inventory is rotated to the front (FIFO - First-In, First-Out).
  • Communicate inventory level discrepancies and stock-out situations to the inventory control specialist or store management.
  • Break down and recycle cardboard boxes and other packing materials to maintain a tidy and environmentally responsible workspace.
  • Operate material handling equipment such as pallet jacks or dollies safely to move heavy or bulk merchandise.
  • Support the processing of online orders for in-store pickup, accurately picking items and preparing them for customer collection.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • RF Scanner Operation: Proficiency in using handheld radio-frequency scanners for tracking inventory, receiving goods, and performing cycle counts.
  • Inventory Management Software (IMS): Basic understanding of and ability to navigate inventory systems to log stock, check quantities, and process transfers.
  • Point of Sale (POS) Systems: Familiarity with basic POS functions for processing returns or assisting on the sales floor.
  • Material Handling Equipment: Ability to safely operate manual pallet jacks, dollies, and other equipment used for moving stock.
  • Ticketing and Tagging: Skill in using pricing guns and security tag applicators/removers with speed and accuracy.
  • Basic Computer Literacy: Competency in using computers for data entry, checking emails, and accessing company portals for training.
