Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Actively operate material handling equipment, such as forklifts and overhead cranes, to safely transport raw stock, work-in-progress, and finished goods throughout the facility.
Perform detailed finishing work on metal components, including grinding, deburring, and sanding rough edges and surfaces to meet precise quality and finish specifications.
Provide direct, hands-on support to skilled welders and fabricators by positioning, aligning, and securing parts and assemblies using clamps, jigs, and measuring tools.
Diligently read and interpret basic blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to understand task requirements and ensure accurate execution of fabrication steps.
Utilize a wide range of hand and power tools, such as angle grinders, drills, band saws, and impact wrenches, with proficiency and a strong focus on safety.
Take responsibility for loading and unloading raw materials and finished products from trucks, ensuring proper handling and storage in designated areas.
Conduct initial quality control inspections on parts and assemblies, measuring dimensions and checking for defects to ensure they conform to project standards.
Operate fundamental metalworking machinery, including metal shears, saws, and drill presses, under the guidance of experienced personnel.
Assist in the assembly of metal structures and components, following detailed instructions and drawings to ensure proper fit and alignment.
Meticulously clean and prepare metal surfaces for subsequent processes like welding or painting by removing rust, scale, grease, and other contaminants.
Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points onto metal stock as a guide for cutting, drilling, and forming operations.
Safely cut raw metal stock to specified lengths and shapes using industrial saws, torches, or plasma cutters as directed.
Execute drilling, punching, or reaming operations to create holes in metal parts according to precise blueprint specifications.
Assist senior operators with the setup and calibration of more complex fabrication machinery, such as press brakes and CNC equipment.
Perform finishing applications like sandblasting or shot blasting to create a uniform surface profile required for painting or powder coating.

Secondary Functions

Consistently maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by adhering to 5S principles and participating in regular shop cleanup.
Strictly follow all company and industry safety regulations, including the mandatory and correct use of all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed boots.
Proactively perform routine, preventative maintenance on hand tools and basic equipment to ensure they remain in safe and effective working condition.
Assist in inventory management by participating in cycle counts, organizing materials, and reporting low stock levels to the shop supervisor.
Accurately document production data, track time spent on specific jobs, and complete required paperwork in a timely manner.
Promptly identify and report any equipment malfunctions, material defects, or potential safety hazards to a supervisor or team lead for immediate resolution.
Collaborate positively and communicate clearly with team members across all departments to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow from start to finish.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

Measurement Proficiency: Ability to accurately read and interpret a standard tape measure, calipers, and other measuring instruments to 1/16th of an inch or finer.
Power Tool Operation: Demonstrated competence and safety in operating common power tools, especially angle grinders, drills, and various saws.
Material Handling: Experience or certification in operating a forklift and/or overhead crane for moving heavy and oversized materials.
Basic Blueprint Reading: The capacity to understand and interpret simple technical drawings, work orders, and cut lists to determine material requirements and assembly steps.
Mechanical Aptitude: A natural understanding of how mechanical systems work and the ability to use tools effectively for assembly and disassembly.
