- Conduct routine maintenance, pre-shift checks, and minor mechanical repairs on mining machinery and equipment to minimize downtime and ensure operational readiness.
- Accurately record and report daily operational data, including equipment hours, production tonnage, and consumables usage, into mine management software systems.
- Install, extend, and maintain critical mine services and utilities, including ventilation ducting, compressed air lines, dewatering pumps, and electrical cables.
- Monitor and manage mine ventilation systems to ensure adequate airflow and air quality throughout the working areas, taking measurements and making adjustments as needed.
- Operate and oversee dewatering systems, including pumps and pipelines, to control groundwater and maintain dry working conditions in the mine.
- Assist geologists and engineers with underground geological mapping, face-grading, and the documentation of structural features within the rock mass.
- Ensure strict compliance with all MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration) standards, as well as company-specific safety policies and environmental regulations.
- Read and accurately interpret mine plans, engineering blueprints, and survey instructions to guide the construction of drifts, ramps, and other mine structures.
- Actively participate in pre-shift safety meetings (toolbox talks), sharing observations and contributing to a proactive safety culture.
- Perform basic rock mechanics tests in the field to gather data on rock mass quality and stability for engineering analysis.
- Respond effectively to emergency situations, such as rockfalls or equipment failures, by following established procedures and participating in drills.
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with supervisors, engineers, and other crew members via radio and other communication systems.
- Transport materials, tools, and supplies throughout the mine site in a safe and organized manner to support ongoing operations.
- Uphold high standards of housekeeping in all work areas, including mobile equipment cabs, workshops, and active mining faces, to prevent accidents.
Secondary Functions
- Participate actively in site-wide safety committees, providing practical input and helping to develop new safety initiatives and procedures.
- Assist in the practical, on-the-job training and mentoring of new or less experienced team members and apprentices.
- Support environmental teams with fieldwork, such as collecting water samples, monitoring dust levels, and inspecting reclamation areas.
- Contribute to daily operational planning meetings by providing on-the-ground feedback and insights to supervisors and engineers.
