Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Accurately weigh, measure, and verify raw materials and ingredients using calibrated scales and measurement tools, ensuring strict adherence to the specifications on the batch record.
  • Operate and monitor industrial mixing and blending equipment (such as ribbon blenders, V-blenders, high-shear mixers, or kettles) to process ingredients according to established procedures.
  • Follow detailed batch sheets, recipes, or formulation cards with absolute precision to ensure product consistency and quality across all production runs.
  • Set up, calibrate, and make necessary adjustments to mixing equipment before, during, and after production cycles to maintain optimal performance and product specifications.
  • Systematically collect in-process samples for the Quality Control lab, performing basic quality checks such as temperature, viscosity, pH, and texture assessments.
  • Maintain meticulous and accurate documentation for all production activities, including batch records, ingredient lot numbers, quantities used, and operational logs, ensuring traceability.
  • Execute thorough cleaning, sanitization, and changeover procedures for all mixing equipment and associated utensils to prevent cross-contamination and uphold hygiene standards.
  • Adhere rigorously to all company safety protocols, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), chemical handling procedures, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) practices.
  • Proactively troubleshoot and resolve minor equipment malfunctions and process deviations, promptly reporting complex issues to maintenance or supervisory staff to minimize downtime.
  • Safely operate material handling equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and drum lifts, to transport raw materials from warehousing to the mixing area and move finished batches.
  • Monitor the mixing process from start to finish, observing equipment performance and product characteristics to identify any potential issues before they escalate.
  • Ensure all raw materials are correctly staged, identified, and scanned, verifying that ingredient names, lot numbers, and expiration dates match the batch record requirements.
  • Manage the proper labeling, sealing, and staging of finished totes, drums, or containers of mixed product for transfer to the next stage of production.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the mixing and compounding area, adhering to 5S principles and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Communicate effectively with shift supervisors, quality assurance personnel, and other operators to ensure a smooth transition between shifts and a coordinated production flow.
  • Perform pre-operational inspections on all machinery to guarantee it is in safe and proper working condition before commencing any production task.
  • Document any non-conformance or deviation from standard operating procedures and collaborate with leadership to identify the root cause and implement corrective actions.
  • Assist in managing inventory levels of raw materials within the immediate work area, notifying supervisors or the materials team when supplies are running low.
  • Participate actively in continuous improvement projects and team meetings aimed at enhancing safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Provide support in training new Mixer Operators, sharing knowledge of best practices, safety procedures, and equipment operation to build team capability.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist with cycle counts and physical inventory of raw materials and chemical supplies.
  • Contribute to plant-wide safety audits and participate in the safety committee or related initiatives.
  • Support the maintenance team by assisting with minor preventative maintenance tasks on production equipment.
  • Collaborate with the R&D or Product Development team during trial runs or the scale-up of new product formulations.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Batch Sheet & Recipe Interpretation: Ability to read, understand, and precisely follow complex manufacturing instructions and formulas.
  • Industrial Mixer Operation: Hands-on experience with various types of industrial mixing and blending equipment.
  • Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP): Strong knowledge and consistent application of GMP standards, especially in food, pharma, or cosmetic environments.
  • Basic Mathematics: Proficiency in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, including working with fractions, decimals, and unit conversions (e.g., lbs to kg).
  • Use of Scales & Measurement Tools: Skill in operating and reading digital and manual scales, flow meters, and other measurement devices with a high degree of accuracy.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

Experience Requirements

  • Direct experience as a Mixer, Compounder, Blender, or Batch-Maker. Experience within a regulated industry (e.g., food & beverage, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, chemicals) is highly desirable.
