Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Travel independently to patient residences, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living communities, and other designated locations to perform blood collections.
- Accurately and positively identify patients using a minimum of two identifiers (e.g., name and date of birth) prior to any procedure to ensure patient safety and sample accuracy.
- Perform skillful venipunctures and capillary punctures on a diverse patient population, including geriatric, pediatric, and patients with difficult venous access.

- Follow the correct order of draw and utilize appropriate collection tubes and containers as specified by the laboratory test requisitions.
- Demonstrate exceptional compassion and communication skills to explain procedures, alleviate patient anxiety, and ensure a positive and comfortable experience.
- Strictly adhere to all safety and infection control protocols, including the consistent use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and proper hand hygiene.
- Maintain the integrity and viability of all specimens from the point of collection to their delivery to the laboratory, managing temperature controls as required.
- Safely operate a company-provided or personal vehicle to navigate a designated geographical area, optimizing routes for efficiency and punctuality.
- Utilize mobile technology, such as tablets or smartphones, to manage daily schedules, access patient information, and electronically document all collection activities.
- Properly process specimens in the field as needed, which may include centrifugation, aliquoting, and preparation for refrigerated or frozen transport.
- Manage and maintain an organized inventory of phlebotomy supplies, collection kits, and PPE within the vehicle, ensuring all equipment is stocked and not expired.
- Troubleshoot and professionally resolve on-site challenges, such as difficult draws, patient refusal, or unexpected scheduling changes, while communicating with dispatch or supervisors.
- Ensure the proper and safe disposal of all biohazardous materials, including needles and contaminated supplies, according to OSHA and company guidelines.
