The Mover Helper works under the direction of a Crew Lead or Driver, executing the packing, loading, unloading, and placement of furniture and household goods. Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Carefully wrap furniture and fragile items with protective materials like moving pads, blankets, and plastic wrap to prevent scratches, dents, and other damage during transit.
  • Expertly load household goods and furniture onto the moving truck, strategically arranging and stacking items to maximize space, ensure stability, and prevent shifting.
  • Systematically and safely unload furniture and boxes from the truck at the destination, placing them in designated rooms as directed by the client or crew lead.
  • Carry heavy and bulky items, including sofas, appliances, and packed boxes, often navigating stairs, tight corners, and long walkways with caution and control.
  • Work collaboratively as a key member of the moving crew, communicating effectively with teammates to coordinate lifting, carrying, and maneuvering of large items.
  • Provide exceptional, friendly customer service throughout the moving process, answering client questions politely and addressing concerns with a professional and helpful attitude.
  • Skillfully disassemble furniture (such as beds, tables, and shelving units) before the move and accurately reassemble them at the new location.
  • Perform pre-move walkthroughs with the crew lead to assess the scope of the job and identify any items that require special handling.
  • Conduct post-move walkthroughs with the client to ensure all items are accounted for, placed correctly, and that the service meets their satisfaction.
  • Protect the client's property by laying down floor runners, padding doorways and banisters, and maintaining a clean and orderly work area in both locations.
  • Safely operate moving equipment, including dollies, hand trucks, appliance carts, and straps, to move heavy items efficiently and reduce physical strain.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures to prevent personal injury and damage to property or goods.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times, serving as a positive representative of the moving company.
  • Assist the driver with navigating routes and safely maneuvering the moving truck in residential neighborhoods and tight parking situations.
  • Perform inventory checks of items being moved, ensuring that the bill of lading is accurate and that all goods are accounted for upon arrival.
  • Handle high-value and sentimental items with an extra layer of care and attention, confirming handling procedures with the client or crew lead.
  • Communicate any potential issues, damages, or delays immediately to the crew lead to ensure swift resolution.
  • Prepare residences for the move by packing loose items into boxes, labeling them clearly with contents and destination room information.
  • Assist with the final clean-up of the truck and organization of equipment at the end of each workday, preparing for the next job.
  • Demonstrate stamina and physical endurance to consistently perform demanding tasks throughout the duration of an 8-12 hour workday.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist in maintaining the overall cleanliness and organization of the moving truck, including folding blankets and securing equipment after a job.
  • Participate in daily team briefings to review job details, specific client instructions, and crucial safety protocols.
  • Help manage and restock the inventory of on-truck supplies, such as tape, boxes, and packing materials, reporting any shortages to the crew lead.
  • Provide support in completing essential job-related paperwork, such as inventory lists and timesheets, ensuring accuracy and legibility.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Proper Lifting & Carrying Techniques: Knowledge of how to safely lift heavy objects using your legs, not your back, to prevent injury.
  • Furniture Wrapping & Padding: Skill in using moving blankets and shrink wrap to fully protect furniture surfaces, corners, and legs.
  • Loading & Tiering Strategy: Ability to visualize and execute a loading plan that creates stable tiers of boxes and furniture inside a truck.
  • Equipment Operation: Proficiency in using standard moving equipment like two-wheel dollies, four-wheel furniture dollies, and appliance carts.
  • Basic Furniture Disassembly/Reassembly: Competence with basic hand tools (screwdrivers, Allen wrenches) to take apart and put together common household furniture.
  • Spatial Awareness: The ability to judge distances and navigate tight spaces with large objects without causing damage.
