Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Develop, champion, and execute comprehensive national sourcing strategies for assigned categories to achieve significant cost reductions and value improvements.
- Lead complex contract negotiations with national vendors, focusing on securing favorable terms in pricing, delivery schedules, payment terms, and service level agreements (SLAs).
- Manage the entire supplier lifecycle, from identification, qualification, and onboarding to performance monitoring, relationship management, and strategic off-boarding.
- Conduct in-depth market analysis, spend analytics, and cost modeling to identify savings opportunities, track commodity trends, and inform strategic decisions.
- Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with key internal stakeholders across various departments (e.g., Operations, Marketing, Finance) to understand their requirements and ensure alignment.
- Act as the subject matter expert for assigned spend categories, providing insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Proactively identify and mitigate supply chain risks, including geopolitical issues, supplier financial instability, and logistical disruptions, by developing contingency plans.
- Manage the Request for Proposal (RFP), Request for Quotation (RFQ), and Request for Information (RFI) processes from creation to final supplier selection.
- Drive supplier performance management through regular business reviews, scorecards, and a focus on continuous improvement initiatives.
- Analyze and monitor inventory levels, turnover rates, and lead times to optimize working capital and ensure product availability.
- Ensure all purchasing activities comply with company policies, ethical standards, and legal requirements.
- Develop and manage budgets for assigned categories, tracking performance against targets and reporting on variances.
- Research and evaluate potential new suppliers and technologies to foster innovation and maintain a competitive advantage.
- Negotiate and implement rebate programs, early payment discounts, and other value-added services with suppliers.
- Resolve complex issues related to supplier quality, delivery, and invoicing in a timely and effective manner.
- Lead and participate in cross-functional teams to support new product introductions or business-wide cost-saving projects.
- Prepare and present detailed reports and business cases on sourcing activities, savings achieved, and market conditions to leadership.
- Utilize ERP/MRP systems to manage purchase orders, vendor master data, and procurement-related information accurately.
- Champion the adoption of procurement best practices and technologies throughout the organization.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior buyers or procurement specialists within the team.
