Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Provide comprehensive, direct patient care to a diverse population of critically ill and premature infants in a Level III or Level IV NICU setting.
- Lead and manage neonatal resuscitation efforts in the delivery room and operating room, stabilizing high-risk newborns immediately after birth.
- Diagnose and manage complex neonatal conditions, including respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), sepsis, persistent pulmonary hypertension (PPHN), and congenital anomalies.
- Develop, implement, and meticulously manage individualized patient care plans, including advanced respiratory support, ventilator management, and sophisticated nutritional strategies.
- Perform and supervise critical neonatal procedures, such as endotracheal intubation, umbilical line placement, PICC line insertion, lumbar punctures, and chest tube placement.
- Prescribe, administer, and monitor complex medication regimens, including surfactants, vasopressors, and antibiotics, adjusting dosages based on patient response and clinical data.
- Interpret a wide range of diagnostic tests, including radiographs, cranial ultrasounds, blood gas analyses, and laboratory results, to inform clinical decision-making.
- Lead daily multidisciplinary rounds, collaborating with neonatal nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, dietitians, and other specialists to ensure cohesive and integrated patient care.
- Conduct thorough and compassionate consultations with families, providing clear updates on their infant's condition, explaining complex medical information, and involving them in care planning.
- Manage the transport of critically ill neonates from referring hospitals, providing medical control and guidance to the transport team.
- Maintain exceptionally detailed and accurate electronic medical records (EMR), ensuring timely documentation of clinical assessments, procedures, and care plan updates.
- Adhere to all established clinical protocols, safety procedures, and quality standards to ensure the highest level of patient safety and care.
- Provide 24/7 on-call coverage on a rotational basis, responding promptly to urgent clinical needs and emergent situations within the NICU.
- Act as the attending physician, overseeing the work and providing mentorship to pediatric residents, neonatal fellows, and medical students.
- Manage the delicate process of palliative and end-of-life care discussions and decisions with families, providing comfort and support with a multidisciplinary team.

- Advanced Airway Management: Skilled in difficult intubations, laryngeal mask airway (LMA) placement, and management of advanced airways.
- Mechanical Ventilation: Expertise in managing conventional ventilators, high-frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV), and non-invasive respiratory support (CPAP, NIPPV).

Education & Experience
Educational Background
Minimum Education:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.
- Successful completion of an accredited Pediatric Residency program.
- Successful completion of an accredited Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine fellowship program.
- Board Certification or Board Eligibility in both General Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.
- Active, unrestricted state medical license and DEA registration.
Preferred Education:
- Additional advanced degree (e.g., MPH, MHA, MS in Clinical Research).
- Advanced certifications in quality improvement, patient safety, or medical education.

Experience Requirements

- Demonstrable experience with advanced treatment modalities such as nitric oxide, high-frequency ventilation, and ECMO.
