Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Install, configure, and meticulously maintain a wide range of network hardware, including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and wireless access points.
  • Proactively monitor network performance, availability, and resource utilization to identify and resolve potential issues before they impact business operations.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for troubleshooting and resolving complex network connectivity issues for end-users, servers, and other infrastructure components.
  • Execute network maintenance and system upgrades, including the deployment of service packs, patches, hotfixes, and critical security configurations during scheduled maintenance windows.
  • Design, implement, and manage network segmentation through VLANs and support secure remote access via VPN and other remote connectivity solutions.
  • Implement, administer, and fortify network security measures, including the configuration and maintenance of firewalls, intrusion prevention systems (IPS), and access control lists (ACLs).
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive and up-to-date documentation for network configurations, physical and logical network diagrams, processes, and service records.
  • Respond to, prioritize, and resolve network-related incidents and service requests submitted through the IT help desk system, adhering to strict SLAs.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and architects to design and implement new network solutions and technologies to enhance the resilience and capacity of the current environment.
  • Conduct regular network security audits, vulnerability assessments, and penetration tests to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of network addressing services, including DHCP scope configuration, DNS record management, and IP Address Management (IPAM).
  • Perform physical installation and termination of structured cabling, including Cat6 and fiber optic cables, and conduct testing to verify signal integrity.
  • Provide expert-level technical support, guidance, and troubleshooting assistance to users and junior IT staff on all network-related matters.
  • Liaise directly with hardware/software vendors and telecommunication carriers to escalate and resolve complex technical problems and service outages.
  • Administer and optimize network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, PRTG, Nagios, Zabbix) to ensure comprehensive visibility into network health.
  • Configure, troubleshoot, and support VoIP phone systems, ensuring high-quality voice communications across the enterprise network.
  • Participate in a scheduled on-call rotation to provide after-hours and weekend support for critical network emergencies and planned maintenance.
  • Assist in the development, testing, and execution of network backup strategies and disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity.
  • Perform the physical racking, stacking, and cabling of network equipment within data centers and telecommunications closets, ensuring clean and organized installations.
  • Enforce adherence to corporate policies and industry standards (e.g., PCI-DSS, HIPAA) concerning network security and data protection.
  • Evaluate emerging networking technologies and solutions, providing well-researched recommendations for infrastructure enhancements and upgrades.
  • Support the expansion of business operations by leading the setup of complete network infrastructures for new office sites or facility relocations.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Deep understanding of the TCP/IP suite and core networking protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, STP).
  • Hands-on proficiency with configuring and troubleshooting enterprise-grade network hardware (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Aruba, Palo Alto Networks).
  • Strong command of LAN/WAN technologies, including Ethernet, MPLS, and SD-WAN concepts.
  • Practical experience with network security principles and the administration of next-generation firewalls (NGFW) and Unified Threat Management (UTM) devices.
  • In-depth knowledge of VPN technologies, including IPsec, SSL VPN, and remote access client configuration.
  • Expertise in using network monitoring, packet capture, and diagnostic tools like Wireshark, tcpdump, and SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor.
  • Solid understanding of wireless networking standards (e.g., 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax), security protocols (WPA2/WPA3), and wireless survey tools.

  • Competency with command-line interfaces (CLI) for network device configuration (e.g., Cisco IOS, Junos, PAN-OS).
  • Familiarity with network automation concepts and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Ansible) is a significant plus.
