Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  1. Support editors and newsroom leadership by managing calendars, scheduling meetings and coordinating internal communications.
  2. Update newsroom budget planners and editorial calendars to reflect coverage priorities and deadlines.
  3. Handle incoming newsroom communications including mail, phone calls and email routing to ensure efficient information flow.
  4. Attend daily editorial meetings, take detailed notes and circulate summaries to relevant newsroom staff.
  5. Monitor breaking news updates and distribute alerts to teams to keep the newsroom informed.
  6. Gather, prepare and archive content such as listings, captions, summaries, photos and graphics for publication.
  7. Proofread and fact‑check submitted content including reader letters, columns, briefs and listings.
  8. Process freelancer and contributor content into the content management system and manage invoicing records.
  9. Maintain and update newsroom files, contact lists, staff schedules, timebanks and payroll records.
  10. Assist in logistical coordination for community events, public forums, debates and newsroom special events.
  11. Order and restock office and newsroom supplies to ensure operational readiness.
  12. Handle public and reader inquiries professionally, routing them or drafting responses as appropriate.
