Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Methodically unload and break down merchandise from delivery trucks, using equipment such as pallet jacks and U-boats to safely transport goods from the receiving area to the sales floor.
  • Efficiently stock products onto shelves and displays, ensuring accuracy in placement and quantity while following detailed planograms and merchandising standards.
  • Meticulously rotate products, pulling older items to the front and stocking new items behind them (FIFO method) to ensure freshness and minimize waste.
  • Maintain the visual presentation of the aisles by "facing" products, which involves aligning all items to the front of the shelf for a clean, full, and organized appearance.
  • Construct and set up promotional displays and end caps according to marketing plans, ensuring they are well-stocked, correctly priced, and visually appealing.
  • Operate and maintain the cardboard baler and other backroom equipment in a safe and responsible manner, adhering to all operational and safety guidelines.
  • Conduct thorough cleaning of shelves, fixtures, and aisles before, during, and after stocking to maintain a high standard of store cleanliness.
  • Perform general store maintenance and cleaning duties, including sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning up spills, and emptying trash to ensure a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Identify and properly handle damaged, expired, or out-of-place products by following company procedures for claims, returns, or disposal.
  • Utilize handheld scanning devices or other inventory technology to track products, manage backstock, and ensure accurate price labeling on the shelves.
  • Work with a sense of urgency to meet nightly productivity goals and deadlines, ensuring the store is "grand opening ready" by the morning.
  • Communicate effectively with the Night Crew Lead and other team members regarding progress, obstacles, and any inventory or safety concerns.
  • Adhere strictly to all company policies and safety procedures, including proper lifting techniques and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Prepare the backroom and staging areas for the next delivery, ensuring a clear and organized workspace for seamless operational flow.
  • Assist in resetting sections of the store or executing larger merchandising projects as directed by management.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist with periodic store-wide inventory counts and cycle counts to ensure the accuracy of our perpetual inventory system.
  • Provide constructive feedback and suggestions to leadership on ways to improve stocking processes, workflow efficiency, and team collaboration.
  • Support other departments with operational tasks as needed during the overnight shift, demonstrating flexibility and a team-first attitude.
  • Engage actively in pre-shift team huddles to understand the nightly goals, key priorities, safety reminders, and any special project assignments.
  • Help train and onboard new Night Crew Team Members by demonstrating proper procedures and sharing best practices.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Equipment Operation: Proficiency or ability to be trained in operating manual/electric pallet jacks, hand trucks, and cardboard balers.
  • Inventory Management Systems: Basic understanding of or ability to learn how to use handheld scanners and inventory software.
  • Planogram Interpretation: The ability to read and follow planograms or schematics to ensure proper product placement and store layout.
  • Basic Math Skills: Competence in basic arithmetic for counting, verifying shipments, and identifying discrepancies.
  • Safety Protocol Adherence: Knowledge of proper lifting techniques, hazard identification, and workplace safety regulations.

Soft Skills

  • Reliability & Punctuality: A consistent and dependable work ethic, especially crucial for overnight shifts.
  • Self-Motivation & Discipline: The ability to stay focused, productive, and on-task with minimal supervision in a quiet environment.
  • Physical Stamina: The capacity to repeatedly lift, carry, and move objects (often up to 50 lbs) and be on your feet for the entire shift.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulousness in ensuring products are correctly placed, rotated, and faced for a perfect customer-facing presentation.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Preferred Education:

  • Some vocational or trade school certification in logistics or a related field.

Relevant Fields of Study:

  • Business Administration
  • Logistics & Supply Chain Management

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 0-3 years.

Preferred: Previous experience in a retail, warehouse, grocery, or stocking environment is highly valued but not a requirement. We are willing to train motivated individuals who demonstrate a strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
