Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct regular and random mobile and foot patrols across the assigned property to prevent, deter, and detect signs of intrusion, fire, hazards, or criminal activity.
  • Thoroughly inspect all doors, windows, gates, and access points to ensure they are properly secured and to prevent unauthorized entry.
  • Monitor surveillance camera systems (CCTV) and alarm panels to observe and report any suspicious activities or breaches in real-time.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to all alarms, disturbances, and calls for service, assessing the situation and taking necessary action in accordance with company protocol.
  • Prepare detailed, accurate, and legible daily activity reports (DARs) and incident reports, documenting all patrols, observations, and actions taken during your shift.
  • Enforce property rules, regulations, and access control procedures for all personnel, visitors, and vehicles to maintain a secure and orderly environment.
  • Act as a visible security presence to deter illegal and inappropriate actions, projecting a professional and authoritative demeanor.
  • Provide immediate assistance to employees, visitors, and clients in a courteous and professional manner, including providing information and directions.
  • Conduct safety and fire hazard inspections, reporting any potential risks such as blocked exits, malfunctioning equipment, or other safety concerns to the appropriate personnel.
  • Lock and unlock facilities at designated times, ensuring all non-essential lights and equipment are turned off to conserve energy and reduce risk.
  • Liaise effectively with law enforcement, fire departments, and other emergency services personnel during incidents, providing them with critical information and support.
  • Operate and maintain security-related equipment, such as two-way radios, body cameras, and patrol vehicles, ensuring they are in good working order.
  • Challenge and verify the identity of unknown persons on the property and, if necessary, escort them off-site.
  • Perform crisis management and de-escalation of tense situations involving individuals on the property, using verbal skills to resolve conflicts peacefully.
  • Report any maintenance issues, such as water leaks, power outages, or broken fixtures, that are discovered during patrols to the on-call maintenance team.
  • Secure and document incident scenes until relieved by a supervisor or law enforcement, preserving evidence as required.
  • Administer first aid or CPR in emergency medical situations until professional medical assistance arrives, if certified and required.
  • Utilize computer systems and specialized software to log patrol activities, manage access credentials, and communicate with the security team.
  • Check for and report any environmental hazards or spills that could pose a risk to the property or personnel.
  • Provide courtesy escorts for employees and visitors to their vehicles after hours to ensure their personal safety.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist with the coordination and execution of emergency evacuation drills and procedures.
  • Provide support during special events or after-hours functions to manage crowd control and secure designated areas.
  • Test security and fire alarm systems on a scheduled basis, documenting the results for compliance and maintenance records.

Educational Background

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 1-3 years of proven experience in a security, law enforcement, or military role.

Preferred:

  • Experience specifically in a night shift or mobile patrol capacity is highly desirable.
  • A clean driving record and valid driver's license are required for roles involving vehicle patrols.
