Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct regular and randomized foot and/or vehicle patrols of the interior and exterior of the premises to deter, detect, and prevent unauthorized entry, theft, vandalism, and other security breaches.
  • Actively monitor an array of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, intrusion detection systems, and access control panels to identify and respond to suspicious activities in real-time.
  • Serve as the primary first responder to all security alarms, fire alarms, and medical emergencies, assessing situations quickly and taking appropriate action in accordance with established protocols.
  • Secure all entry and exit points, including doors, windows, and gates, ensuring they are locked and protected outside of operational hours.
  • Meticulously control and log all after-hours access for employees, contractors, and visitors, verifying identification and authorization before granting entry.
  • Investigate and document all security incidents, accidents, and unusual occurrences, gathering preliminary information and evidence for formal reports.
  • Confront unauthorized persons for questioning, reroute them to appropriate areas, or call for assistance from law enforcement as the situation dictates.
  • Perform comprehensive security sweeps at the beginning and end of each shift to ensure the facility is secure and free of potential threats.
  • Enforce all company security policies, procedures, and regulations to maintain a safe and orderly environment for all personnel and property.
  • Provide a visible security presence to deter potential wrongdoers and provide a sense of safety for any staff working late.
  • Escort employees or visitors to their vehicles upon request to ensure their personal safety, particularly during late hours.
  • Immediately report any discovered safety hazards, maintenance issues, or equipment malfunctions (e.g., water leaks, broken lights, unsecured areas) to the appropriate management or on-call personnel.
  • Liaise effectively with police, fire department, and other emergency services personnel when they respond to incidents on-site, providing them with critical information and support.
  • Maintain a constant state of alertness and awareness of surroundings, capable of identifying subtle changes in the environment that may indicate a security risk.
  • Operate and manage communication equipment, such as two-way radios and telephones, to maintain contact with a central station or supervisor.

Secondary Functions

  • Prepare and submit detailed, accurate, and professional daily activity logs, incident reports, and patrol records for management review and legal documentation.
  • Conduct routine inspections and testing of security and fire safety equipment, such as fire extinguishers, alarm panels, and emergency exits, reporting any deficiencies.
  • Manage and maintain the lost and found property system, properly logging and securing all items turned in during the shift.
  • Provide courteous assistance and information to authorized personnel and visitors on the premises during overnight hours.
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of security procedures by providing feedback and observations from on-the-ground experience.
  • Monitor environmental and weather conditions via alerts and direct observation, reporting any potential risks to the property such as flooding or storm damage.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Surveillance System Operation: Proficiency in operating and monitoring CCTV systems, access control software, and alarm panels.
  • Report Writing: Ability to write clear, concise, and accurate reports for incidents, daily activities, and patrol logs using computer software (e.g., MS Office).
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Certification: Certified and capable of providing immediate medical assistance in an emergency until professional help arrives.
  • Knowledge of Security Protocols: Strong understanding of public safety procedures, security operations, and best practices for property protection.
  • Emergency Response: Knowledge of emergency evacuation procedures, fire safety protocols, and how to effectively coordinate with first responders.
  • Valid State Security License/Guard Card: Must possess and maintain all required state and local licenses for a security professional.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Preferred Education:

  • Certificate or Associate's Degree in a related field.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 1-3 years in a security, law enforcement, or military role.

Preferred: 3+ years of security experience, with at least one year specifically working an overnight shift. Prior experience in a similar environment (e.g., corporate, industrial, residential) is highly valued.
