Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Design and execute comprehensive mixed-methods research projects, integrating both quantitative and qualitative data to answer critical questions about program effectiveness and community needs.
  • Develop and implement robust data collection instruments, including surveys, interview protocols, focus group guides, and observational rubrics, ensuring methodological rigor and ethical standards.
  • Perform in-depth statistical analysis on large and complex datasets using software such as R, Stata, or SPSS to identify significant trends, correlations, and causal inferences.
  • Author and publish high-quality, long-form research reports, white papers, policy briefs, and academic articles that communicate findings to diverse audiences, including funders, policymakers, and the public.
  • Conduct thorough literature reviews and environmental scans to synthesize existing research, identify evidence-based practices, and position our organization's work within the broader field.
  • Create compelling data visualizations, dashboards, and infographics using tools like Tableau or Power BI to make complex data accessible, understandable, and actionable for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of research projects, including developing work plans, setting timelines, managing budgets, and coordinating with internal teams and external partners to ensure timely completion.
  • Present research methodologies and key findings in a clear and persuasive manner to internal leadership, program staff, the Board of Directors, and external audiences at conferences and meetings.
  • Collaborate closely with the program team to translate research insights into concrete recommendations for program improvement, innovation, and strategic adaptation.
  • Support the grant writing and fundraising process by providing robust data, evidence of impact, and a compelling, data-driven narrative for proposals and reports to funders.
  • Design and manage Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) frameworks to systematically track program activities, outputs, and outcomes against organizational goals and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Ensure the highest standards of data quality, integrity, and security through rigorous data cleaning, validation, and management of sensitive and confidential information.
  • Perform landscape analyses of the social sector to identify emerging trends, potential partners, and strategic opportunities or risks relevant to the organization's mission.
  • Conduct due diligence research on potential grantee organizations or partners, assessing their programmatic models, financial health, and potential for impact.
  • Lead the administration and analysis of constituent feedback mechanisms, ensuring the voices of the communities we serve are systematically captured and integrated into our strategy.
  • Train and support program staff on data collection best practices, basic data analysis techniques, and the use of data for day-to-day decision-making to foster a data-literate culture.
  • Manage relationships with external research consultants, academic institutions, and other partners, overseeing contracts and ensuring the quality of their deliverables.
  • Synthesize and translate complex academic research and statistical models into clear, concise, and actionable summaries for leadership and program teams.
  • Develop and maintain a central knowledge management system or research library to organize findings, data sources, and key literature for easy access across the organization.
  • Analyze public and private secondary data sources (e.g., U.S. Census, government surveys, administrative data) to provide contextual understanding and benchmark our organization's impact.
  • Stay abreast of innovative research methodologies, evaluation techniques, and data science applications within the social sector to continually advance the organization's analytical capabilities.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Advanced Quantitative Analysis: Deep understanding of statistical methods, including descriptive and inferential statistics, multivariate regression, and statistical modeling.
  • Qualitative Research Methods: Expertise in designing and conducting interviews, focus groups, case studies, and performing thematic analysis.
  • Statistical Software Proficiency: High level of skill in at least one major statistical package, such as R, Stata, SPSS, or Python (with pandas, SciPy, statsmodels).
  • Data Visualization & BI Tools: Proven ability to create insightful dashboards and reports using tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.
  • Survey Design & Platforms: Experience creating methodologically sound surveys and implementing them on platforms like Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey, or Alchemer.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
