Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Deliver Exceptional Learning Experiences: Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and creative activities tailored to the developmental needs and interests of each child, ensuring alignment with the seven areas of learning in the EYFS framework.
- Act as a Dedicated Key Person: Take primary responsibility for a small group of children, acting as their main point of contact to ensure their well-being, build secure attachments, and foster a sense of belonging.
- Observe, Assess, and Plan: Meticulously observe children during play to identify learning styles, interests, and developmental milestones. Use these observations to accurately assess progress and inform future planning.
- Maintain Developmental Records: Create and maintain detailed, up-to-date learning journey profiles for key children, using a mix of written notes, photographs, and work samples to track their progress and achievements.
- Champion Safeguarding and Welfare: Hold a paramount commitment to the safety and well-being of all children, rigorously following all safeguarding, child protection, and health and safety policies and procedures.
- Build Strong Parent Partnerships: Establish and maintain positive, trusting relationships with parents and carers, providing regular feedback on their child's day, development, and well-being through daily chats and formal meetings.
- Create an Enabling Environment: Prepare and maintain a vibrant, welcoming, and resource-rich learning environment, both indoors and outdoors, that is challenging, stimulating, and emotionally secure for all children.
- Promote Positive Behaviour: Act as a positive role model and guide children in developing social skills, empathy, and respect for others, using consistent and appropriate behaviour management strategies.
- Support Daily Routines: Skillfully manage and support children through daily routines such as mealtimes, snack times, and sleep times, promoting independence and healthy habits.
- Provide Intimate Care with Dignity: Support children with personal care needs, including nappy changing and toilet training, with the utmost respect, sensitivity, and professionalism.
- Foster Inclusivity and Diversity: Ensure that all children are treated as unique individuals and that activities and resources reflect and celebrate diversity, promoting an inclusive and equitable setting.
- Collaborate with the Team: Work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues, sharing ideas, contributing to team meetings, and maintaining a professional and supportive atmosphere within the nursery.
- Engage in Professional Development: Actively participate in staff training, workshops, and continuous professional development opportunities to keep your skills and knowledge current with best practices in early years education.
- Manage Health and Hygiene Standards: Uphold exemplary standards of hygiene and cleanliness throughout the nursery, including toy and equipment sanitation, to prevent the spread of infection.

- Administer Basic First Aid: Hold a current Paediatric First Aid certificate and be prepared to administer first aid for minor incidents as required, accurately recording all occurrences.
- Lead Small Group Activities: Confidently lead small 'circle time' and group sessions, focusing on developing children's listening, attention, and communication skills.
- Contribute to Nursery Events: Participate enthusiastically in the planning and execution of nursery events, such as parent evenings, seasonal celebrations, and open days.
- Adhere to All Policies and Regulations: Read, understand, and consistently implement all nursery policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory bodies like Ofsted.
Secondary Functions

Educational Background
Minimum Education:

A full and relevant Level 3 qualification in Childcare/Early Years (e.g., CACHE/NVQ Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce, Early Years Educator qualification).

Experience Requirements
Typical Experience Range:
0-5+ years. Roles are available for newly qualified practitioners as well as those with several years of hands-on experience in a nursery or early years setting.
