Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Learn and operate plant equipment and systems (pumps, compressors, conveyors, boilers, heat exchangers) under supervision, following written Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure safe and efficient production.
  • Perform routine start-up, shutdown, and changeover procedures for production lines and process units, documenting steps and deviations in production logs and control systems.
  • Monitor process control parameters (temperature, pressure, flow, level) using HMI/SCADA screens and operator rounds to ensure product quality and process stability; notify supervising operators and engineers of abnormal conditions.
  • Conduct basic mechanical and process troubleshooting, isolating faults, performing corrective actions within trainee scope, and escalating complex issues to maintenance or lead operators.
  • Record production data, batch records, and shift reports accurately and timely in electronic systems (LIMS, MES) or paper logs to maintain traceability and regulatory compliance.
  • Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space, hot work, and other safety protocols during maintenance support, changeovers, and plant interventions to protect personnel and equipment.
  • Assist maintenance teams with preventative maintenance tasks such as lubrication, filter changes, and minor repairs, following instructions and using appropriate PPE.
  • Conduct and document equipment and area inspections during operator rounds, noting leaks, unusual vibrations, or product discrepancies and initiating corrective work orders as needed.
  • Execute sample collection and basic quality checks (visual, weight, pH, conductivity) per QA procedures and escalate out-of-specification results to quality control personnel.
  • Maintain housekeeping of assigned work areas to ensure safe access to valves, panels, and escape routes and to support 5S and Lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Participate in operator training programs, on-the-job mentoring, and classroom instruction to develop competency in equipment operation and process safety.
  • Support shift-to-shift handovers by providing detailed verbal and written briefings on ongoing processes, outstanding issues, and prioritized actions to ensure continuity of operations.
  • Assist in implementing continuous improvement suggestions by tracking small process adjustments and participating in Kaizen or root cause analysis teams when invited.
  • Safely operate basic industrial equipment such as forklifts or pallet jacks if certified, and perform inventory checks on spare parts and consumables as directed.

  • Follow quality management system procedures and assist in audits by providing production records, checklists, and evidence of completed tasks.
  • Support emergency response drills, shutdown procedures, and incident investigations by providing factual accounts and operational data from shifts.
  • Learn and apply basic PLC/HMI interactions such as acknowledging alarms, resetting interlocks, and following cascading alarm responses as instructed by senior operators.
  • Maintain professional communication with production, maintenance, and quality teams to coordinate activities and minimize production interruptions.
  • Participate in shift scheduling and be available for rotating shifts, overtime, or on-call duties as required by operations.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist with root cause data collection and preliminary analysis to support corrective actions and CAPA processes.
  • Support inventory replenishment for process chemicals and operational supplies by recording usage and notifying materials management.
  • Contribute to the development and revision of SOPs and checklists by providing operator-level feedback and improvement ideas.
