- Execute cross-docking tasks by rapidly transferring freight from inbound to outbound trailers with minimal storage time to meet tight LTL and expedited shipping schedules.
- Complete end-of-shift paperwork and digital paperwork for receipts, shipments, load manifests, and equipment inspections to ensure accurate recordkeeping and chain-of-custody.
- Inspect and operate dock equipment β dock levelers, trailer restraints, dock lights and conveyors β performing daily safety checks and logging any defective equipment or maintenance needs.
- Follow hazardous materials (HAZMAT) handling instructions and company protocols when applicable, including segregation, labeling, and proper documentation for restricted or temperature-controlled freight.
- Secure freight within trailers and containers using load-securing techniques and materials to meet DOT and carrier requirements and reduce risk of cargo shift or damage.
- Assist in verifying driver identities, seals and bill of lading numbers during trailer hand-off and gate processing to maintain accurate custody transfers and prevent freight discrepancies.

- Escalate safety incidents, near misses, damage claims, and missing or misrouted freight immediately to the shift supervisor and complete required incident documentation.
- Execute basic maintenance tasks on material handling equipment: charging/parking electric pallet jacks, refilling stretch-wrap dispensers, and performing pre-shift equipment inspections to ensure reliability.
- Monitor and maintain temperature-controlled shipments (refrigerated/frozen) by checking seals, verifying temperature logs, and notifying leads of any out-of-range conditions to protect perishable goods.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by providing feedback on dock layout, loading patterns, and process bottlenecks to help increase throughput, reduce touch points, and improve safety performance.
Secondary Functions
- Assist warehouse teams with picking, packing and staging during peak periods or when cross-trained to other night-shift functions.
- Participate in targeted cycle counts, inventory reconciliations and month-end physical inventory processes on the dock.
