Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Directly supervise, coordinate, and mentor a team of painters and apprentices, assigning daily tasks and monitoring performance to ensure project goals are met efficiently.
- Interpret blueprints, project specifications, and work orders to determine the scope of work, required materials, and necessary workforce allocation.
- Enforce and champion all company and OSHA safety regulations on-site, conducting regular safety meetings (toolbox talks) and ensuring all crew members utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Act as the primary on-site point of contact for clients, general contractors, and project managers, providing regular progress updates and professionally addressing any concerns.
- Conduct thorough pre-painting inspections of surfaces and post-painting quality control checks to guarantee all work meets or exceeds company standards and client specifications.
- Manage project timelines and schedules, proactively identifying potential delays and implementing solutions to keep the project on track.
- Train crew members on proper surface preparation techniques, paint application methods, and the safe operation of all equipment, including lifts and sprayers.
- Oversee the meticulous preparation of all surfaces for painting, including scraping, sanding, patching, caulking, and priming, to ensure a flawless and durable finish.
- Manage on-site inventory of paints, coatings, tools, and supplies, coordinating with the office to order materials as needed to prevent work stoppages.
- Prepare and submit daily field reports, timecards, and other required documentation accurately and on time.
- Troubleshoot and resolve on-site issues, such as unexpected site conditions, equipment malfunctions, or interpersonal conflicts within the crew.
- Coordinate job site logistics, including the setup of a safe work area, proper ventilation, and the protection of adjacent surfaces from paint.
- Ensure the proper mixing, matching, and tinting of paints and coatings to meet exact color and finish specifications.
- Lead the final walk-through with clients or general contractors, creating and managing a punch list to ensure 100% satisfaction.
- Monitor project expenditures and labor hours to ensure the project remains within the allocated budget, reporting any deviations to project management.
- Uphold a professional and clean job site at all times, overseeing daily and end-of-project cleanup procedures.
- Evaluate the performance of crew members and provide constructive feedback, participating in formal performance reviews and disciplinary actions when necessary.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot a wide range of painting equipment, including airless sprayers, pressure washers, and sanders.
- Demonstrate and lead with a strong work ethic, providing hands-on assistance to the crew when required to meet critical deadlines.
- Read and understand product data sheets to ensure the correct application and handling of various coatings, solvents, and cleaning chemicals.
- Develop and implement a plan of action for each phase of the project, communicating it clearly to the entire crew.

- Strong understanding of advanced surface preparation methods for various substrates (wood, metal, drywall, masonry).
- Mastery of color theory, including precise color matching and tinting of paints.
- Skilled in the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of airless paint sprayers, pressure washers, and aerial lifts.
- In-depth knowledge of different paint types (latex, oil, epoxy), coatings, finishes, and their appropriate applications.
